Kevin A is da man!!!

One new hard drive later and I'm back in business.
Well sorta... Still have a long way to go, but couldn't have done it without Kevin's help.
Kev came over last night after work and stayed for quite a while getting things working.
Originally, I thought that my ISP was having problems, but things kept going down hill and getting worse.
After hours of trying to correct my problems, I gave up and called Dell Computers.
After a long discussion with a technician in India, I was told that my hard drive was bad and needed to replace it.
Kevin doesn't think that the hard drive is bad and thinks I had a glitch in the opperating system. Funny... I had just recieved a good sized automatic update from Microsoft when things first started going on the blink.
Given the fact that the OS had been updated, I was prompted that the reload disks were an older version and if I reinstalled the program, I would loose all my files.
Looks like no more auto updates for me...
Thanks to Kevin, I was able to find my way back here.

Mike,
I left a phone message for you... I'm hoping you can help me with another install situation... Please give me a jingle when you get a chance, Thanks!

I've been wondering about those updates! My computer is restarting a couple of times daily, installing updates..If I stop the updates, will Micro-sloth kill my PC? I'm figuring that they are constantly repairing bugs that they create..Am I paranoid??
I would like to cut the cord..Is it wise? How do I do it!!

The "MadOne" AKA "Wise 'ol Swamp Master" AKA "Madjack" AKA "MJ"
has wise bones that can tell the ways of the Dark Side.

He is wise to load after understanding what Msoft wishes to foist uPon
him. Setting uP your your preference to look before you download the
uPdates maybe a good choice for the wiseOne but some novices will
just take the default Dark Side pills. We all know that Msoft has in the
past had to make changes to changes to changes before they get an
uPdate or change honed in. Sometimes it is better to wait unless some
serious threat of virus action is at your gates ... and Msoft's shield is
the only saviour you have in your arsenal.

Dean ... be happy Sir "Kevin" is close at hand as your knight to fend off
the bad energy and keep your Computer Castle in order. :)

Steve, just turn off "automatic updates"....I keep track of update reports on a couple of 3 geeky sites...until they give 'em a thumbs up, I leave alone....once approved, I update...and then only grudgingly...
