Early light weights

Postby Kurt (Indiana) » Wed Oct 04, 2006 5:53 am

I was reading Roly's post about the 13' Kenskill regarding the trailer weight and realized that the trailer I camped next to last week was a "Super Light Weight".
It was a (totally restored) 1935 Bowlus "Road Chief". The Bowlus was said to be the same weight as my teardrop. Of course I had to look it up and guess what. It's true. Talk about a light weight. It's 30' long and really different.

I was just looking at one of my books, Silver Palaces and it says that the 11ft long 7ft tall Bowlus Papoose weighs 700lbs. The other book I have, says that the 18ft Road Chief weighed 1100lbs.

This Road Chief looked longer than 18' and was supposed to be only 1100# according to the owner and the web site.
It was a "long long" trailer.

The weight is a real illusion because of the "long" look of the trailer.
