Yep, at any time just look down at the online viewers and you'll see at least 1-2, click on their name and you'll see when they joined and how many posts. When I registered I made my first post right then, I had no idea what I was getting into! :R :R :R :R

I'm one of those lurkers. I post occasionally--usually when I have a question. I'm a cabinet-maker by trade and often have something to contribute but somebody usually has already put in MY two cents worth by the time I get to the computer. I swear some of you guys must live on the damned internet. Then there's the combined issues of being on dial-up and having a somewhat balky old computer. I just don't get a chance to get in a word edgewise. And there's another issue--don't anybody take this wrong, I'm just stating a fact: When you have slow access there's a lot of time lost waiting for screens to come up when fifteen people reiterate "Good job!", "Great work!", etc. every time someone posts a picture of the last screw he drove. Rant over.

Anyway, please don't discount all lurkers as noncontributing sorts.

Best,

Tom

I am one of those rare posters also, I have a hard time thinking of things to say before the topic changes. I do get on every day at lunch and read new posts. I haven't started building yet and have changed the design many times. I love the forum, just don't say much. And yes, I am looking for a picture for my avatar.

Rich, I did not mean to imply that you were diparaging those with few posts, only that there may be less than obvious reasons for low levels of participation. Rereading your original post I see it more as encouragement to those who have not yet introduced themselves.

They will post when they have a question or have something to say... We have enough topics floating around, don't need meaningless posts. Almost every day I get on there are 30-35 threads with new posts on them.... tough enough to keep up as it is....

Let'em lurk.... fine by me.

Just for the fun of it, I counted the topics that had replies since I last posted to this topic about 13 hours ago...

45 topics had replies..... anyone who thinks we need more replies has bats in their collective bellfries....

Matter of fact, about a week ago, I was hoping some of the the 'nice job' and 'happy birthday' notes would just go away.

I used to read all the "notes posted since your last visit"... Now I look at the topics to see if they really interest me before I open them. I understand their are people with a lot of time and interest, so they read everything.. I just do not have that kind of time to read them all.

Ok I'm a lurker - I confess. This is my first post - I've very active with the Airstream forums and am in the process of a 2 1/2 yr (so far) rebuild of a 1958 Overlander.

I really enjoy reading these posts because most of you (or at the threads I read) are builder type folks - so it gives me lots of ideas and I really enjoy all these folks who are into building things...

Having said all of that, I do have a utility trailer sitting in my barn that I plan to build a teardrop on - I know its not a true teardrop, but I want to build a small trailer for short/fast trips that I can just throw on the back of the truck without having to do leveler bars, fridge locked, vents closed, cabinets secured, steps up, making sure everything is put up in the trailer etc.

Personally, I read EVERYTHING that is posted and it certainly gets daunting at times BUT a big part of what we do here is to be a mutual admiration society for each other, encouraging folks in their build and camping trips.

Most of us, as newbies have never seen or have limited exposure to TDs in person so those posts encourage/validate the work we have done and gives the confidence that we are headed in the right direction and gives the motivation to "git 'er done".

We also have a very "cyber" campfire thing going and the personl postings help that feeling and also helps keep the friendly atmosphere going...to all that just hangout/read/lurk, I encourage you to throw your 2 cents into the ring and I hope everybody has fun around the fire...it is what we are here for...

Ken, that's OK because I lurk at the Airstream forums. One thing that bugs me is, that people there don't post pictures. It's actually easier to do that there but rarely any pics.

Ditty Ditto. I read almost everything. When it gets to name calling I duck out. I'm building and have found many jewels of information I needed in the most inane thread.

I'm sorry you were having such a bad week. No one is required to read a thread and it doesn't seem to hurt anyone. Some people even like being told Happy Birthday. Beats the whinning and arguing. Imagine no story-telling or response to Ira's wonderful anecdotal tales.

Ok all you non posters, nows your chance to get in. Go over to General Discussions and say Happy Birthday to someone. :applause: :D
