meaining you didn't have to pay for it up front. Maintenance and upgrade costs are not part of this topic so wife/husband may still qualify!
I do have a nice bean pot, some of my koi were free, some big rocks, but you know what I started this and I may have to leave my answer till later I can't even answer my own topic.....

The crank out windows for my trailer project that I haven't started yet :)
Soon to be bumped by the free pop-up that I'm being given for the chassis. Now if only I had free wood coming in :worship:

My cousin gave me a '91 Mazda Navajo (Ford Explorer re-badged) in May. He brought it from Florida and didn't want to drive it back because he said there was too much wrong with it for that long of a drive. Fifty dollars later and about 4 hours and I haven't had a problem with it since. I wouldn't be afraid to take it anywhere, 154,000 miles.

A few years back I picked up 2 - 1 ton dump trucks for $400, a '74 & a '69, put the '74 on the road, used it for 3 years sold it for $2200. Still have the '69. It's waiting for a rebuild right now. Tears come first at the moment.

Well, I try to avoid picking those up, they always get expensive. I'd rather pick up a rusted out '50 Ford, it'd be cheaper.
Can't say I haven't tho.

I have an older friend who's filthy rich--a drinking buddy. (He has 3 sons and 2 daughters, all filthy rich too because he taught them that way.)

Five years ago, he started developing Alzheimers, and had to stop drinking. I had to stop drinking during the day because after 9 months of unemployment, I got my current job.

Anyway, 6 months or so later, I get a check from him for 5 grand--with a note saying how lucky he's been in his life, that he wants to share some of his money with others, that he knows I could use it, etc.

I called to profusely thank him, but we haven't really spoken since. He has a problem with phone conversations due to short-term memory loss. Plus, I'm kind of embarrassed to make too much of an effort to keep in touch with him because it will seem like I'm looking to sponge more from him.

Human nature is weird, huh?

Best free thing not including maintenance and upgrades? Since you put it that way, I'd have to say my wife. Now, if you factor in the maintenance, etc . . .

Ira, he needs you now more than ever. I've been in a similar situation before and I know how tough it is. Please, go with what's in your heart and go see him. It doesn't matter what other people think. Sorry, I hope I haven't stepped out of line.

You're right, Eric. It's just schedule-wise and everything, it's hard to hook up.

He's still active business-wise, investing in real estate development projects with another friend of mine who BUILDS them, so I think I'll contact this other friend to work something out.
