A Fathers Worse Nightmare

Postby len19070 » Sat Nov 18, 2006 10:54 am

First off let me say that my wife and have never had a problem with either my daughter or my son till now. We've tried and tried to think of where we went wrong but it just makes no sense.

The other day I came home from work only to be flabbergasted by discovering my 15 (almost 16) year old son was playing, yech..I'm almost afraid to see the word in print...

DISCO MUSIC :? :?

I immediately asked why..why and got no response!

At that point I informed him that there would be no more playing of "That Funky Music White Boy" , Gave him some Little Feet, Blues Brothers and Elmore James CD's and sent him to his room to reflect on what he had done. :worship:

I don't know if Military School or the Seminary will help.

Ah well, it beats Rap or hip hop. If you see skinny white pants and jackets get some professional help----quick.

I would give him a strong dose of Dylan, maybe some Eagles thrown in. Jim G

I guess I've lucked out my kids (22 & 17) listen to some of the same music I did/do. The worst thing they listen to is Tecno.

Dear Dismayed
you shouldn't blame yourself, a parent can only do so much. and I'm sure you did the best you could but the odds are stacked against you. Perhaps his school had a 70's dance (gag) or he caught saturday night fever on cable these things can have a strong impression on a young man.

Heres some things to look for that might suggest its too late to turn him around.

1. is he wearing polyester pants.
2. are the collars on his shirts wider then the fenders on your t.d.
3. are there platform shoes in his closet (as a parent you have a right to search his room.)
4. does he want to get a Greg Brady perm.

If you don't find these things there is still hope for him, be understanding yet firm and continue to love him (this dosn't mean you have to be seen in public with him) and remember their are worse things in life then being a d#*^o fan................I just can't think of any right now.

Good luck we're all praying for your family.
George

I know the shame...check his closet for a Neru jacket....you want to make sure this hasn't spread to another decade.

They are just rebelling, if you start to play some Disco while driving or while working on your tear then they will move on to something else.

My son gave me some advice last night...
On Sunday, we're gonna be going to a mushroom fair.
Now although he really doesn't enjoy eating mushrooms, he is very interested by them.
I can stand to use a "brush-up" on knowing which ones are edible, because I have fond memories of mushrooming with my folks in the Prarie Creek area as a kid.
My son's advice to me... Take an aspirin before we go to the fair, because all the spores floating around in the air at the fair will probably give one a headache.
He sure got a dose of wisdom when he became a teenager...
I don't get into too much of a twist about what music my kids listen to.
They have recently discovered the Beatles... I thought that was cool.
Very recently, my son bought a CD by a German group. The music was fine, but the lyrics were in German, so I had no idea what they were saying...

I think you shouldn't discourage their new found way of releasing youthful energy.

As a dad ... you should look into their eyes and see if they have the big
smiles and seem to enjoy their new found music with every stylish move they make.
