Black Friday

Postby mikeschn » Fri Nov 24, 2006 6:36 am

My email has been very quiet overnight. I figured everyone must be resting up to get a early start this black Friday.

I wonder if people have extra money cause they are building a tear instead of buying a big expensive Silver Clipper, or if they are shopping today because they have less money because of their tear??? :?

We are picking up the wood burning stove for the garage today, so I can work on my tears all winter long.

What's the hottest deal you found in your area this Black Friday?

We are in SF visiting a daughter's family -- with the tear, of course. No shopping today.

Same here, though if I weren't, I still wouldn't go out into the madness, not even to buy a laptop for $250...

:o There wasn't a single thing I wanted on sale today. Fabric store coopon for 50% off doesn't happen till 12 noon. By that time the stuff I want will be gone. :R

Got more stainless steel screws and the order number for the slider track. Going to have great weather all week. :D 8)

Wife was all gung ho to shop but after looking at the sale papers, nothing looked very interesting so she slept in. I got a newspaper this morning and the only thing that interested me was a 19in flat panel monitor for $99. I decided to go to sleep instead.

Black Friday Blues. I got up at 4:00am to get to the mall for the 5:00am "Door Buster" sale.

I don't usually do this but I wanted to get a flip down (undercounter) TV for $79.95 for the teardrop.

I ended up getting two portable DVD players and the TV I went for originally. The DVD players were $69.95 each (after rebate) so all in all I got some very good deals. When I got home, I checked Ebay to see if the DVD or the TV were offered there. They sure were. The lowest Ebay price on the TV was $150 and the DVD players were offered at $139 (lowest). Both of these items retailed for $200 on the web.
Unfortunately, I took a nap and didn't get back to the store untill after 2:00pm. By then the price had gone back up to $179.99 for the TV and $139.99 for the DVD player.
I just wish I had picked up 4 or 5 of these things for sale on Ebay.

Oh well, Maybe next year.

We walked into Best Buy to see what the specials were... The line to the cash register was 1 1/2 hours long. The best thing I could see was a laptop, regular $799 for $349. But I don't need another laptop. So we ran from the store, and went to our favorite place, Sams Club. They don't really participate in Black Friday, so it was calm and peaceful in there.

We got the wood burning stove from H.F. though... now I just need to find the plumbing...

So it sounds like Black Friday was a nothing event for many of you guys...

I didn't do the shopping thing this year. I had enough of that last Black Friday. I worked at my in-laws replacing rotten siding on their house all day. I hate to go shopping unless it's to Home Depo!   It's the tom boy in me. 8) peg

Got up at 10 , took the 2 kids to the mall , they bought stuff, not me . I hate buying at the mall , way over inflated! Went to Office depot , found 1 gig flash drives for 12.99 , 2 gig flash for 24.99. Bought 2 1 gigs & 1 2gigs . Went home & took a nap! :applause: :applause:

My wife said that yeah, Wal-Mart was bit of of a nuthouse overnight, people waiting for the 5AM bells to ring, but that it cleared out real quickly.

She worked an extra 2 hours, I went to pick her up at 8:30AM, and the store was DEAD. Literally, DEAD.

Like once they sold the 10 large TVs and 20 laptops they had, the super-bargains no one was interested in anything else. Also, Wal-Mart abolished their layaway department two weeks ago, and that made a BIG difference.

Something tells me that when the numbers come in on Monday, nationally, the retailers aren't gonna be that happy.

I stayed home too. Just bought a 12-pack of Bud at the convenience store.
Here we go again!

I had no intention of going into any store today. I hate waiting in line for nonsense like that. When I go to the store it's to get what I want and leave. If leaving takes a half hour or more what I want can wait for another time.

On the radio this morning I heard I79 into Grove City Outlet was backed up for 10 miles! Now that's just stupid.

Rich, I totaly 100% agree with you. There is nothing I could want that would be reduced enough to make it worth me getting up at 4am. Not Even if it was free.

With a friend who works at Best Buy, you don't need to wait for sales. They get really good discounts. I've considered working there part time just to get them. I'd load up and scratch my electronics itch then quit.

I had a friend back in FL who's brother worked there. I'd buy things and ship them back to myself in TX. I only had one thing get "Lost in the mail", the insurance covered it.
Like a dummy, I insured it for what I payed, not what it cost me to buy another one (with no discount).
