Coonrebel,
My sister's truck (18 wheeler) is stuck in Denver. I guess some of the trucks are running out of supplies and need to be dug out. She said they tried to get a tow when it got bad but they had to get all those people out of cars that might freeze first. She has a borrowed truck and didn't have her usual pile of junk. Kinda like teardroppers, got all the latest toys.

You all be careful getting around.

When I lived in NC everybody would buy up the bread and milk when a storm threatened. Why bread and milk?

Rocky remembers and wrote:Why bread and milk?

:D
Well, Rocky ... maybe the most significant (PC) home maker didn't make bread
any more or their oven was electric and if the electric went out NO bread.
Maybe it was too cold for dry yeast to bloom in North Carolina?

Milk.. Well, maybe most didn't have a handy cows TeeT to pull to get the
white stuff and so figured they would buy milk for cereal and coffee till they
worked out getting a cow into the family budget and second bedroom?
Don't even ask me how they would get enough hay to fee the critter.

I think buying out the shelves of bread and milk seems prudent under these real world conditions....... :D
The lack of TeeT pulling and the smell of yeast blooming drives people to these extremes.

If the power goes out you can't cook so you need to eat cerial for breakfast. You gotta have bread for sandwiches.

I don't care how bad the weather is going to get I never run out and buy stuff before a storm. That's just foolish. If you don't have anything in your house to eat for a few days you need to rethink your shopping habits.
Around here you will be able to travel inside of 48 hours anyway so what is the point of panicking?
Of course we have snow plows here to remove the mess. Down south I know it is a different story, but how long does the snow really hang around?.... A day maybe two? People are always ready to go into panic mode.. just relax, it will pass, after all it's only snow.

:? :? :R :R :R

I certianly hope Denver gets out of its weather Woa's. Because untill your weather clears up. We in Philadelphia, PA. can't ship Allen Iverson to you. And that can't be soon enough.

Happy Trails

Here's my place the night of the blizzard. I dug out the truck when there were 24 inches (7pm) and took a drive into town (some ARSE stole my snow shovel off the porch-thank goodness I have my avalanche shovel in the truck). Nothing open of course, but fun! I use to drive a snow plow for 10 years (when needed).
the front drift (over my front walk) hit about 4 feet. In the backyard, is mostly covered in 3 foot drifts, but the drift against the house hit about 5 foot. These pics are an hour after I dug out (still another 20 hours left in the storm.)
Front walk (you can just see my truck in the top left corner)

Back door (door has an 8 inch step up to it)

End of the driveway (I dug out with a 2 foot long avalanche shovel-TWICE!!)
