For Fans of 'Top Gear' Programme

Postby angib » Tue Apr 10, 2007 2:34 pm

At least a couple of people here seem to be fans of the 'Top Gear' motoring programme from Britain, so I'm passing on what I read in my paper today - that the BBC is negotiating with a (un-named) US channel to produce a US version of the series, probably with at least Jeremy Clarkson and maybe with all three UK presenters.

If you could take that guy off our hands, many people here will thank you.....

Andrew, we'll take him if you take Matt Roloff--the midget father on Big World, Little People.

You got that series there? A reality show:

Midget parents...three normal sized kids...and a midget kid. (And the midget is a twin to one of the normal-sized ones. Now THAT sucks! For the midget.)

Yeah--I know you're not supposed to say "normal size," you're supposed to say "average size." And you're not supposed to say "midget," you're supposed to say "little people."

But who the hell cares? If those little shrimps get offended and start anything, I can kick the crap out of them with no problem at all.
Here we go again!

Hey! Pick on somebody your own,... oh, uhh, never mind.
If you're going to be offensive, you should at least be funny; ask Imus.

Andrew, fine with me. Would you please take back Hugh Laurie from Wooster and Jeeves? He is now running amok over here in some banal hourly doctor show (like we need another doctor/hospital show) called House....

He used to be funny, now he plays a doctor hooked on pain killers... I guess 'pain' is the operative word here. Another show with everyone stressed out running around saving lives from some unknown disease..

Did you hear the joke about this? The director of the House series is very anti-British and said he'd never have one of those g-d Limey actors on his show. For a long time he couldn't find a suitable lead actor and then he got this applicant who had to do the audition by video due to other commitments - and he was brilliant, just what the director was after. It was only after he'd signed up Laurie that he found out he actually was one of those g-d Limeys and by then it was too late.

Do you guys notice that his accent is fake? It doesn't seem noticeable to me. I saw Jodie Foster in a remake of 'The King and I' at the weekend and her British accent was very impressive.

But top of the list by several hundred miles is American Christopher Guest as British rocker Nigel Tufnel in Spinal Tap ("Look, the knobs go all the way to eleven....") - genuine genius category for the accent - no Brit ever guesses that he's not a Brit.

I live in the same town as the Roloff family. UGH. Let's just say that their "reality" show is very set-up and doesn't portray some of their situations accurately. i.e. their use of their land and the legality of it.
One look at their permits and violations on the County website shows what a mess it is.
