Shameless promotion of a fellow North Dakotan

Postby dakotamouse » Sat May 05, 2007 3:25 pm

When we finished our teardrop I wanted to decorate with North Dakota as my theme. I typed North Dakota into Ebay's search engine and found a fellow, Rick Whittier, who lives in Lidgerwood, ND and carves fishing decoys. These decoys are used for spear fishing in winter. If you arent familiar with this, a large hole is cut in the ice , a decoy is dangled and when the northern pike comes in for lunch he is speared and becomes lunch!

The work he does on these decoys put them in the category of art! I have a bluegill, a sunfish and a perch. My fishies are never getting wet! The detail he puts into them is fantastic! Scales are burned into the wood. He even puts in the lateral line.

This is one of the fish he has for sale now.

There is a nice bio about him here

with some of his earlier work.

I emailed him if he could put up for sale a Murray Cod, I have a friend in Australia named Murray who fishes for Murray Cods. He researched the fish and put one up for bid. It just came today and it is going to be hard to hold this for Murray's birthday, heck it will be hard not to keep it for myself!

Just neat to see a fellow North Dakotan make good in the world
