Makes me glad I reside in Missouri.

Inspections are still a pain in the rear, no matter where you live.

Although in Missouri if your car can drive into the inpection place and then come to a complete stop, and the wipers, lights and horn works, you usually pass.

Yep,

Pa too. $44 just for my RAV4 to do a breathalizer test,it's an 06 with only 7200 miles on it. Ya would think they wouldn't do the tests until after 2-3 years of a new car. It's going to clean house on the junkers on the highway. Some of that inspection money is for state road repair

Just a side note & warning for truckers hauling in Pa. A new police program is in effect in Pa. The license # of a tractor can be linked to the trucks maintenance records. The scores ,10 being the best,100 being the worst. Any score higher then 25 ,the truck will be subject to specialized trained police on road inspections, and the truck will be instantly taken out of service, and fines to owners will be assessed by points of repairs needed. Several police departments already have trained officers, and equipment in our area. The department my wife works for stopped a questionable truck, and got $7000 in fines. BTW the police only get 2% of the fine money, the rest goes to the state for road repair. Trucks in an accident are automatically checked. Just thought I would throw that out there if any of you are truckers passing through Pa.

And here in Ca...if you don't have the dough to have the car fixed...on my recent inspection due notice, it says that you may qualify for financial assistance on the repairs...not a Democratic Republic...a Marxist state! Doug

It's been my experience that any place that starts out Democratic Republic of:, particularly Peoples' Democratic Republic of: is at least socialist and generally marxist   :NC I better be careful or this will be considered political  and get pulled

So, for the benefit of our grandkids and their great-grandparents, we can't afford to keep our cars in running order? We don't value clean air and water anymore, or what?

Or is the problem the cost?

Because, seriously, we all love the out of doors, and we all hate the government.

Because out here it isn't only a matter of smog. I had an older Suburban that wouldn't pass because of the points distributor was so worn I couldn't keep i adjusted (shaft was bouncing around). I put an HEI dist. in it, much better spark, no points to wear, emissions went way down and would pass with flying colors, but it was failed because that distributor wasn't approved for that year vehicle. Since then some things have changed, but it is still a matter of what's under the hood, not if the numbers are good. If it passes at the tailpipe, who cares what is under the hood!

We all know that Crist is gay, right? Except that since he's a Republican, it's okay.

Non-Floridians should know that we HAD these emission tests here until about 8...9 years ago:

They were dropped because:

1) Waiting on the test lines caused MORE toxic crap to go into the air.

2) All they tested for were emissions anyway. So if you you had no brakes, that wasn't part of the test, so you were still cool.

3) 90% of the cars down here are fairly new anyway--so there's really no need for this kind of testing in the frst place.

4) One private company was making millions of dollars a year as the sole vendor to handle these operations.

Plus, the asshole never mentioned anything about doing this in his campaign--not once.

Nothing against gays, but this Crist is a bad one. A dangerous one.

Not only won't he admit who he is, but he won't admit what he stands for.

You guys are all listening, right? And you know what a liberal I am, right?

The guy is gay, but won't admit it.

That's pretty disgusting, and shows his true character.
Here we go again!

I just read about this last night.
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/07/13/flor ... standards/

They started tailpipe inspections here (in Austin and surrounding areas) 2 years ago because we failed too many ozone action days, or something like that. Now the annual inspection has nearly tripled in cost.

Florida did away with inspections years ago, why are they going to go back to them, because this whole environmental movement is the new "in" thing to do?

Inspections are not for the "Safety of the Public" at all, they are nothing but revenue makers for the state and inspection facilities. When I moved from FL to NC, I saw just as many POS cars on the street in NC as I did in FL.

One inspector failed me for a hole in my tail light (which had passed 2 times before). When I went back for my retest I reinstalled the old one after they gave me the sticker. I didn't even wait, I did it right there at their shop, they could do anything to stop me. The placement of the hole in relation to the bulb did not blind any drivers behind me. I still had that same light on the truck when I traded it 10years later.

Not sure if he's gay (dont really care) but he certainly is a ZERO.

Which is exactly what we will all be saving on our tax bills with his highly touted property tax reform.

State's are forced to comply with Federal standards and are not the State's doing. Here in Maricopa County (Phoenix, AZ) they are being fined
monthly until the air is cleaned up to meet the Federal Standards. We have been to far from standard and with all the building here in most of the polution is dust. My alley just got asphalt chips to reduce dust. You know Los Angeles is better now than it was in the late 70's because of stricter compliance.

Dumb as it gets

Postby Guy » Sun Jul 15, 2007 3:17 pm

Dear Ira,

I do not believe you are that stupid as to post a comment on someones sexual orientation on this board. Especially when it was not the object of the thread, either on or off topic.

Whether you are bright enough to grasp that there are many gay members on this board does not matter, just be informed that there are and try to behave accordingly.
Regards,

Guy

Florida Inspection History

Postby Alfred » Sun Jul 15, 2007 3:48 pm

Hi Gang,

I don't live in beautiful, sunny Florida anymore, having finally escaped to the mountains of Western NC after 41 years in the Sunshine State (Go Gators)!

But just as a point of reference, Florida used to have full mechanical/safety inspections when I was a kid. I remember in St. Petersburg, the State-operated Inspection Station was on 28th Street, near the 28th Street Drive-In Theater, which is now defunct, but where you could get your whole family, including your grandparents in to see a movie at 99-cents a carload. People were frequently failed back then for not having their headlights aimed properly, and there were several small businesses near the inspection station that advertised to check/aim the headlights. Bob Grahm did away with the full mechanical/safety inspections when he was Governor in the 1980's. Then a few years later they implemented a new inspection for emissions only, which at the time I left Florida, had been rescinded. So if they are returning to full mechanical/safety inspections, this is something that has come full circle.

Meanwhile, don't get me started on NC! Brought both of my Florida non-previously-inspected cars into this beautiful State and took me several weeks to get them both passed through inspection due to small things, one running light out, one park light out, battery failed due to a dying cell, etc.

As far as the concept of inspection, I am ambivalent. Certainly they are a pain in the butt, governmental and drain my wallet. On the other hand, it is probably a good idea to get some of the really unsafe rattletraps off the road and repaired. Doesn't matter, nobody from State has called me to ask my opinion!

I remember both the drive in and the inspection station, I always went to the inspection on 49th St. S. and right across the street a guy adjusted headlights. I always wondered if there was a kickback going on. I mostly went to the Skyway drive in on Pasedena which of course became a Ponderosa and is now a Shell's or Leverock's I forget which.
