GeoTracker...wife is mad...I just don't know.

A friend had a '95 GeoTracker with 95,000 miles on it. (Yeah--at that age, it could be 195,000, but put this possibility aside for a second.)

Body is mint, it's a "convertible," the inside is decent, but there's a leak in the AC system so it has to be charged every few months. Also, the transmission has just been replaced.

2 grand, I test-drove the thing, and now it's sitting in my driveway. (I plan on giving her a grand on Friday, and a few hundred here and there.)

It is both the cutest and stupidest little thing I've ever seen, and my wife thinks I'm totally nuts. But to me, I think there are things I can do to customize it (like replacing the rag top) and keeping it running well. I figure the thing is so damn small and SIMPLE that most repairs won't kill me.

Anyone own one of these? And can I tow The Crab with it without dying?

Congratulations Ira!!! If the neighbors will let you park it in your driveway...how can your wife complain???? Don't tell me...this wasn't one of those Saturday afternoon things after a six pack breakfast of ham and eggs, was it????

Actually, I think that is just the thing for pulling around the Crab!!!! The proportions will be much nicer than behind the full sized PU!!!

Just for safety you might add breaks to your crab and they make a kit to put a vw diesel in it

Dean, this is a 95:

OLD!!!

I just picked it up yesterday and haven't removed the soft-top yet--it's been raining down here and then HOT--but although the exterior of the nylon/vinyl/whatever the hell it is looks fine, the interior "cabin" side is a littl marked. But they sell after-market replacement tops for it.

The thing is, for 2 grand, am I nuts to want this toy? Every time I look at it, I laugh. But I'm having a blast driving it.

Ira, it'll save you some gas ... can you get a hard top for it a la the Daihatsu Rocky or the Isuzu Amigo?

If you can get a Tracker cheaply enough and swap in a VW diesel, you can run it on used french fry oil and both save yourself money and help strike a blow for US energy independence.

I don't know about the hard top option--I've been too busy avoiding my wife's deathly glares to surf and learn. But I thought the soft-top makes more sense for me down here anyway:

We have tons of days that look great to take the top down--but then it can rain with like no notice. At least with the soft top, you can remove it and keep it with you in the vehicle and play it by ear.

As far as the diesel engine goes, isn't THAT a nice thing to think about for the future, in case the engine eventually DOES take a crap?

So far, the biggest problems driving this thing is making u-turns. The damn thing is so small that I almost did a 360.

Geo Tracker 1995

Postby Creamcracker » Sun Jul 22, 2007 5:57 pm

Here's our 1995 Geo Tracker we bought it in 1997 and it currently has 58,000 miles on the clock. It's been a great little 4x4 and I've used it to tow several cars out of a ditch. I just put a new top on it --- the first since the original.

I have a tow hitch for the Tracker on order.

IRA,

My daughter says it's too old for you. So she is willing to help you out. She'll take it off your hands for every penny you paid... She can be down there in a couple days if you agree. ;)

Did Isuzu ever offer their diesel in their Amigo or Rodeo in the US?

HAH!!! SAME EXACT CAR!!!

What hitch? And where did you get the top? There seems to be a ton of places that sell those tops.

No they used rebadged GM drivetrains. Then Honda would rebadge them into Passports.

The Geo Trackers were "Badge Engineered" Suzuki Sidekicks. The Geo Prizm was a Toyota Corolla.
