I have a Lowrance Iway 350 and use it every where I go. I believe Garman makes the better ones though. I've been pretty happy with the Lowrance http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Automo ... AY350C.asp
. I also have one of these in my trailer http://www.rmtracking.com/gpsproducts/smarttrack.html just in case it goes somewhere with out me.

I would reccomend the Garmin also. I am very pleased with mine. I have a 60cs and it gives the best of both mobile and portable. It will give turn by turn directions in the car. Or I carry it with me hunting in the woods or kayaking in the ocean. It is the size of a walkie talkie. If I was to get a new one though it would be a 76cs. The new ones use a standard SD card to store maps on.

S.A. Mike, are you looking for a handheld model or one you use in the car? I have a Garmin eTrex and like it alot. I use it on canoeing trips to keep track of the mileage. It's about $100 and is a basic GPS unit. The first GPS unit I ever bought was a Magellen............. supposed to be waterproof, it wasn't....... went through 3 of them under warranty in one year and all the POS's leaked!!

BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Magellen..............    .........

I have a "cheap" Garmin- Street Pilot 360. Not as fancy as Steve 's. I'm super happy with it. Used it to go across the U.S. Gets me through big city traffic without stress.

We bougth a MIO - Works real nice. The issue I find is that "JASON" (the voice) can take you adventures you never thought of. Last trip he wanted us to get on the PA Turnpike via a closed entrance fence and bypass the toll both.

Outside of that - it is a nice device.
