My weekend full of first times!

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

My weekend full of first times!

Postby elmo » Wed Jul 25, 2007 10:10 am

First DO meal! Mountain Man Breakfast.

Image

Turned out pretty good! I would of said great, but I was following the recipe I had exactly since this is the first time I attempted a DO meal. I would added some mushrooms, onions and peppers.

My first Kitty Litter Box Cake!

Image

Image

Had the recipe for awhile...we were celebrating my Father in Laws birthday and my daughter being potty trained.

First time the soft top is on the Blazer...actually did this a little earlier in the week.

Image

I was not liking the idea of drilling at least 20 holes in the truck to put snaps on.

And here is one Sandman will really like...I picked up a new to me KTM 950 Adventure on Sunday.

Image

Had to leave from Door County at 7:30 am to make my 10 am meeting time....wasn't feeling to well...couple of bathroom stops along the way. Made it to Algoma and saw a elderly gentleman fall on his Harley Electra Glide....stopped and helped him pick it up and make sure he was okay...he said he was eventhough he had a pretty bad limp. I couldn't stay that long to make sure absolutely that he was okay...remember the couple of bathroom stops earlier...well when you lift up a 700 lbs motorcycle it makes all your muscles flex and I had to find the closest bathroom I could...McDonalds in Algoma will never be the same. :sweaty:

Made it down the road a little ways and found a lady broke down along the side of the road with her bicycle, (for you that don't know I use to be a Bicycle Shop Manager and now a stay at home dad that part times at a bicycle shop) so I stopped and got her going again after I took a broken link out of her chain. Luckily I volunteered for a Breast Cancer ride last weekend and was to lazy to empty the Excursion and had all my tools with me still.

Okay I am running late now...make it to the freeway and open it up for awhile to make up time...made it about 15 miles and State Patrol stops for a talk...82 in a 65. I pulled over as soon as I seen him start moving...very polite...joked a little....wondered if there was a bathroom close by....I had a little bit of a nervous stomach from getting pulled over.

He comes back and gives me a verbal warning, because I have a good driving record. FYI...I usually don't do 82 in a 65.

The rest of the trip was uneventful...other than bottle feeding a baby racoon and playing with skunks. The guy and his wife I bought the bike from takes in and cares for animals that lost their parents and then release them when the are old enough to take care of themselves.

And last but not least...the first time in my Speedo...one size too small! :)

Just kidding!

Mary K,

I emailed you our recipe for it. I would bet it is the same as Elmo's. It has been a tradition for us to make it every Halloween for the past 7 years as one of the edible delights at our Halloween party. The only thing we do different (in looks) is to sprinkle some of the green colored cookie crumbs on top of the tootsie rolls.

The cake really tastes good if you can get over the visual and psychological aspects of it.

Way to go Elmo!

Here is the recipe for The Kitty Litter Cake!

CAKE INGREDIENTS:
1 box spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 box of white cake mix
1 packag e white sandwich cookies
1 large package vanilla instant pudding mix
A few drops green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Rolls or equivalent

SERVING "DISHES AND UTENSILS"
1 NEW cat-litter box
1 NEW cat-litter box liner
1 NEW pooper scooper

1) Prepare and bake cake mixes, according to directions, in any size pan. Prepare pudding and chill. Crumble cookies in small batches in blender or food processor. Add a few drops of green food coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs. Mix with a fork or shake in a jar. Set aside.

2) When cakes are at room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with half of the remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy. Place liner in litter box and pour in mixture.

3) Unwrap 3 Tootsie Rolls and heat in a microwave until soft and pliable. Shape the blunt ends into slightly curved points. Repeat with three more rolls. Bury the rolls decoratively in the cake mixture. Sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture, then scatter green crumbs lightly over top.

4) Heat 5 more Tootsie Rolls until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box. Heat the remaining Tootsie Roll until pliable and hang it over the edge of the box. Place box on a sheet of newspaper and serve with scooper. Enjoy!

Betsey is it the same recipe? I used a couple more tootsie rolls than the recipe said and I did roll them around a little bit after the picture was taken.

GO, ELMER...GO!!!

And congrats on the bike and happy kids!!!

I really enjoying seeing you and others enjoy the summer so much:

Living in Florida, the summer is like ho-hum--it's WORSE than winter because it's so dang hot and rainy. But I remember what it was like up north.

HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU GOT MONTHS TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. For a diarreah effect in the cat litter cake, melt peanut brittle in the microwave.
Here we go again!

There isn't a lot of KTM's like the 950 Adventure around...but come in at the 3rd biggest seller in the motocross/dirt bike stuff...I can see them going past the other companies in the next couple of years. Good stuff if you do your own wrenching...could be pricey otherwise.
