Computer is acting odd...

Postby Dean in Eureka, CA » Thu Jul 26, 2007 2:18 pm

Recently, my computer tries to go online by itself and I've noticed that it's keeping information stored of log in and passwords on different sites and even keeps recent Google topics I've enterd and all of this AFTER I have went in and cleaned out internet cookies, files and history.
Example: Grant came for a visit and I asked that he not click the "Remember Me" box when logging onto this site....
Joanie logged on also after Grant was through.
Now when I log on here and click on the log in box to have my saved info pop up, Grant's name and TDN's name are on the list as well.
Guy stayed with me for a month and used the computer to go to this site daily, but his information didn't saved, so I'm inclined to believe this is something new that has changed and is causing the computer to act different.
Another example: I went to log on to ebay and mispelled my username... That one is also shown on the list now too.
As far as the Google bar keeping information stored on previous topics... I don't know if that did it in the past or if I have now just discovered that it does...
About the computer trying to get on the internet by itself...
It used to do that when I had Automatic Windows Update running.
I've since turned that off and am using Avast virus protection.
My daughter recently installed MySpace Instant Messenger, but I uninstalled that because I thought that was what was causing the computer to go online by itself, but it wasn't...

Anybody know how to remove the unwanted information stored here on my computer for log in username information and know how to stop my computer from trying to go online by itself?
BTW- The best I've done to keep the computer from helping itself to the internet is to keep the "Connect Automatically" box unchecked. It still trys, but leaves the little internet window up on the screen... The one where it says Connect To, where I enter my username, password and can check or uncheck Remember Password and Connect Automatically.

In Internet Options, one of the tabs is Content, click on it. the bottom section is Personal Information - click the AutoComplete button. Check to see if any of the boxes in there have been turned on. If so unclick them and save.

As to autoconnecting to the net, I don't know.

Dean, my other computer will self dial up the internet and connect. It doesn't look like it is connected unless you look at the little computers. We have tried to find a way to prevent this and only turning off the computer works.

You can have firefox clear private data when closing but I have removed the check for remembering passwords many times and it just keeps getting checked.

If anyone finds out how :worship:

Aunti M,
Try Gambam's suggestion... It seems to be working for me.
I cleaned out Forms and Passwords on the Content thing and unchecked Connect Automatically.
Only hibity-dibity I'm having right now is remembering all my usernames and passwords on previously saved info for different sites... :?
