YOU NEED A TD OR TTT...you don't have to load and unload all that stuff!!!

You're daughter will love it too cause it leaves more room for her to play!

Even though our camp site is pretty minimal, I still think we bring too much stuff. Even though we bring a lot of stuff, we don't unpack all of it because, you have to pack it up. After a few trips, you will learn what to bring and what to leave home.

Rick,

We haven't taken our trailer out yet. No tow vehicle found . But when we do, if it is like every other trip we have ever taken, we will take 3 times what we are going to use and about 1/2 of it won't be used or even taken out. So don't feel like the Lone Ranger. You are not alone. If you ever get it worked out please post and let me know how you solved the problem.

Rick I have now seen TD's with that much stuff. It is about getting comfortable. I know we got the quick up and screen so our camp will look almost that full.

Oh and the Grandkids tents need to go up too. 8) I will be off the ground.

Your camping set-up there reminds me of The Grapes of Wrath:

Was your wife behind the screenhouse slaughtering a chicken that you stole from some nearby farm?

Looks like a serious case of TMS syndrome to me.

I went with a tonneau cap on my truck for one reason - to ensure that I had a limited amount of space for "stuff."

It worked. Where I used to have a regular truck cap that was packed floor to ceiling with camping stuff, the tonneau has cause me to cut my load in half and I don't miss any of it.

Done too much backpacking to be happy with a campsite that looked like that...

First aid stuff can be much more compact -- unless you're the designated EMT for the event?

My "first aid kit" fits in one of those large-size belt-carry camera cases (Samsonite, black ripstop nylon with four zippers and a fastex buckle and a shoulder strap!) that are about 6'' deep by 3'' wide and unzip in front with an 'organizer' pouch. In that mesh pocket lives a spare chap stick, a sting stick, an eyeglass-repair kit in a tube, and half a dozen alcohol wipes. I also carry, in the case, a pair of small scissors, a pair of tweezers, a couple of sewing needles taped inside the lid of a plastic box of plain unwaxed dental floss, and about a dozen band-aids in various shapes and sizes, plus a 3'' piece of moleskin, a tube of triple-antibiotic ointment with analgesic, and three of those PVC 'tubes' Advil comes in -- one with advil, one with tylenol, and one with aspirin. I have a digital forehead thermometer and a small bottle of hand sanitizer in there as well as a small tube (lip gloss size) of vaseline and a similar-size tube of aloe gel (in case of sunburn).
Stuffed down in the bottom of the case is an elastic bandage in case of sprain. I have about a 3' piece of duct tape wrapped around some recycled address-label backing paper, too. It weighs nearly a pound, but I don't have to think about whether it's worth the trouble to lug along.

I have a good friend who carries a first aid kit that fits in an altoids box, and never leaves home without it.

Your teardrop is just an empty box on wheels, you might as well fill it up with the good things in life.

Heh.

Burnt my fingers on the cotton balls, so I started buying lamp wick (you can get it several places, my current favorite is a fabric store called Rachel's) ... you can make your own with cotton string that you've beeswaxed and crocheted in a double-chain. Cotton kitchen string or even cheesecloth's not that spendy.

Sigh. Fixin' to have to replace my faithful 5-year-old fanny pack. I've worn holes in the canvas on the top and the bottom.

Camping is like a lot of other endeavors, you bring the things you MIGHT need for ALL situations... and use what you do need....

Kind of like a first aid kit... you might not need it this time, but you will be happy to have it when you do....

A hide-a-key falls into the same general category... and a rain suit.

However, if you bring 4 of everything and there are only 2 of you, you might want to reconsider/g/...

That fanny pack and a couple 20-oz bottles of water have seen me through some adventures.

If you travel (especially via air) these days, you need to have something you can keep in hand to cover you in case you're separated from your gear, I find. What with the (asininity of ) the 3-1-1 rule and the new anti-sippy-cup attitude of NTSA, it's (almost; and once they force SWA to assign seats the same as all the other carriers, almost will be gone) not worth the trouble not to drive, anymore.

So might as well take along the tear and save hotel costs, and be in control of available comforts.
