Things that don't fit anywhere else...

What else do you build?

Postby MSG Hall » Mon Nov 26, 2007 3:45 am

I have seen a deck being built, and I talked about building boats, I know there is at least one artist here... what else? what do you make/build? (come-on show off your work here)

I do would the odd wood working project, but my passion is building Motorcycles. here is my last bike and one I'm working on now (well when I am home) I buy them wrecked or neglected cheap, then fix them up the way I like them. I sold the first one for $2600. and it never needed any work, and could out run any Harley on the road. the one I am working on now I will be keeping forever I think. it's a 1400cc Suzuki Intruder. when I am done, I will have maybe $3000 total in it. Doing your own work can really save you some cash.

(I have these pictures hosted on my Christian Bikers site)

I built the '32 Ford roadster in my avitar. I enjoy building the engines....the roadster engine is a 377 ci small block Chevy (400 block destroked with a 350 crank), aluminum heads, intake, and water pump, 10.2:1 compression, 280 degree duration cam, computer rated at 425 horsepower on pump gas. Lots of fun in a 2200 pound car. :D

I build patterns, anything cast in metal I build it in wood. manhole covers, engine manifolds, teardrop hitch covers stuff like that. If any of you have seen the El Camino Real bell that hangs along the pacific coast highway, Imade the pattern for that.

Here's a link to some photos of some of the stuff that I have made. I have certainly made lots more, but just don't have any pics.

I also build PCs for myself and sometimes for others.

I almost forgot - I used to make fiberglass fenders for small diameter wheels!!!

and these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BGM-109_Tomahawk
then I told a US government inspector he was stupid(twice)
and now I use one of these:
http://zimmermanindustries.com/english/
or one of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dump_truck
or occasionally:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backhoe
or

for what I made in 1992 so I guess I know who's really stupid of course my stress level used to be off the chart and now my biggest worry is where to eat lunch so some good did come from change 8)

My favorite uncle was a pattern maker. He built these huge gears out of wood that were used to make lost wax casting blanks. Actually that was just one of his jobs, in another he and a distant cousin design and built baseballs first electric scoreboard when Powell Crosley decided to electrify his field in 1937.

Sarge mentioned decks I have built 5-6 for friend family and a few customers. My main hobby business for the last 9 years has been custom mini barns. Here are 3 of the 200 + I have built for customers in 8 - 10 counties around me.
