Is the 2000-Peso bill worth anything?

Postby WarPony » Sat Feb 16, 2008 1:48 pm

I have some Mexican 2000 Peso bills I found in a drawer and when I converted them to US dollars it came to around $185 each. After some research, there are some that say they are worthless. Most were printed in '84 and '87 but I figure a Peso is a Peso, right?

Are there any currency experts out there?

Can't help you with that but funny thing you just reminded me... I have a canadian $100 bill that was worth about $65 american dollars when I recieved it.... Now its worth equal to or more than 100 bucks as the exchange notes. Thanks for the reminder. Might be time to order something out of canada.

You will have to take it to a bank that deals in currency exchange. They will have a book to compare your pesos with pesos that will be honored. Many times, even if a bill is out of circulation, the country will honor it, but not always. If the bank can handle it, they might take the bill on conditional acceptance and wait to give you your cash when the bill has been accepted.

You might have to call a few banks until you find one that handles foreign currency. You don't have to be a regular customer.

Oh, and they all will only convert paper bills--no coins unless they are gold. That's another story entirely.

I hope you can get the bill converted. Otherwise, you can frame it as artwork.

And if they do give you cash for it, I will only charge you $175 for this info. :R
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

So, what's the story behind this stash of pesos? Left over from a lost weekend? How much tequila was involved?

Jeff,
Hola...
Not too sure about the Peso bill, but Tony Stewart's rookie card is worth quite a bit. :eyebrows:

WarPony,
I'm no expert but I hope you have a LOT of them there old Mexican 2000 bills!
There was a devaluation after they were issued and one of them is now worth about $0.18.

"On 1 January 1993, the Bank of Mexico introduced a new currency, the nuevo peso ("new peso", or MXN), written "N$" followed by the numerical amount. One new peso, or N$1.00, was equal to 1000 of the obsolete MXP pesos."

You got your self a cool 19 cents there...dont spend it all in one place :) The peso was devalued by a factor of 1000 in the 90's, so if you could even find someone to take that in, you got a 2 peso bill. It takes 8-12 peso to buy a soda :)

I'm no expert but I do know about the on-line currency converter. 2000 MXN = 185.78 USD.

They way this country is going, the peso might well be our unit of currency sometime in the near future. There are shops in the Mexican district of KC that only accept pesos.
Of course, you could keep them and trade for the Amerodollar that is coming.

I thought about him. Maybe I'll just do like Tony said and let the bank figure it out.
