Okay, I'm not that gullible.... but the IRS doesn't email you about tax refunds right?

I got this stupid .. email .... I've already received both of my tax refunds from Fed and State so I know this is bogus.

...that is a perfect example of a "phishing attack"...the IRS, your bank, ebay or any other organization/business will never ask for sensitive information directly thru an email or a link embedded in an email...if you receive a legitimate warning/alert thru an email, you will be directed to login to your account, independently of the email by going to the companies/organizations site(independently of the email) and logging in thru the normal manner........

I received an email a while back from "The IRS". It had their exact logo/header. WRONG! I forwarded it to the IRS and their reply was that they NEVER contact anyone by email.

I got one from PayPal the other day. But it wasn't "PayPal". I checked the header and PayPal was misspelled by one letter. The screen looked very authentic though. You have to be careful these days, especially when it involves account numbers or passwords.

I forward all my bogus emails to [email protected] and let them check it out. I get several a week from someone in a different country that needs me to help them get money into the USA. I cant believe all the different letters that say the same thing. I wonder how many people actually give them their checking account info?

Having dealt with the IRS through church related activities – they NEVER e-mail – they GOT your number! They prefer the legal certified mail way of contact. I have received the so many scams with the only variant being the name changed. But you know that over the thousands of e-mails sent out – even if one reply – then it worked – beware!

I agree with Mad Jack but think one thing should be added. The warning should also include being contacted by telephone. I have often thought that this warning would make a good service project for scouts or some other similar organization. Make a card with this warning and distribute to everyone in your area.

Any time you get one of these official looking emails the first thing you want to look at is the spelling and grammar. If there are a lot of mis spelled words or bad grammar it is most likely a phishing letter.

u ..... never happen
wether .... whether
recipient org. .... unlikely abbreviation
maner .... manner

I deal with the IRS on a regular basis. The IRS will always send you a letter FIRST before they contact you via telephone. They NEVER contact people via email. Usually you have to call them. They don't usually call you - if they do, you're in some really deep horsesh*t!

Just another phishing scam - just like all the rest.

I heard on the radio last night a guy responded to a email from IRS concerning his direct deposit incentive check, he gave them his acc number and they drained his account.
So far this year I have won over 100 billion dollars from the UK lottery, Yahoo lottery, numerous long lost relatives in Zimbabwe. I dont know how I am going to spend all that money! Aaron

Not sure who I dislike more. Email scammers, or the IRS.
