this thing was really quick and it jumps... so one of my Soldier wanted to take a picture of it and when the camera flashed it looked right at us. it wasn't too big for here, it would just fit on a quarter. cool huh?

Great arachnid

What a great picture, really shows how the creature adapts to blend in with the local environment. Desert camouflage at its best. Today, my class in the computer lab came and viewed this picture as we've been studying desert animals, their features and adaptations. Thanks for sharing with us.

Jumping Spider Very cool, in the fight vs flight department they lean heavily to fight! A generalization about spiders: the better the web the less venomous ...so bad web = more venomous, Black Widows make horrible webs. Jumping Spiders dont make webs at all In general they use their strength to overpower their prey. Some are very venomous but their fangs are so small they have trouble biting people, but still don't touch or bother them. aggressive eaters if you have one in your house they will definatley keep the fly population down Great pictures!

Spiders dont bug me a bit but to have one actually look up at you is very creepy indeed! The only bug in the world that really bothers me is the potato bug, but that sucker freaks me out!

Kate loves jumping spiders (seriously - she thinks they're cute) so I'll forward these to her.

Thanks!

Another nature lesson from Ranger Matt - The potato bug or JC is a root eating critter,(things that can eat roots bite hard) and communicate by thumping their abdomen near potential mates burrow. each species has its own beat. they are also part of another animals life cycle called the horse hair worm.If the larval worm is eaten by a suitable insect, the protective covering dissolves and the released larva bores through the gut wall and into the body cavity of the host. There, it digests and absorbs the surrounding tissue. When mature, it leaves the host insect to start the process again.
