Oklahoma weather, again.

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Oklahoma weather, again.

Postby Catoosa Grani » Sun Jun 01, 2008 7:47 pm

Well, there has been some really bad weather around our area lately but we have been lucky and missed the bad part, that is until this morning. I was working in the kitchen when all of a sudden the electricity went off and it began to rain and the wind started blowing hard. There was a loud noise that sounded like an explosion, shook the house and rattled the dishes. When I looked out front, there were limbs on my front porch and across the windows. Well I had not seen this before so I went to look and half of a big tree had fell on the roof and across the driveway. That wasn't all, there were big limbs all over the roof and all over the yard. The wind was blowing so hard it nearly blew the back porch off. I was home by myself, well just me and the dog, and I was a little shook up. When Gene found out what was going on he did come home. We got pictures so I will put some on here as soon as I get some help. We were without electricity all day, just got it back on. Some of the neighbors lost trees also, one covered the road so you couldn't drive through. My corn was all laying down, so were the beans and onions. At least I had the tomatoes staked up good and had wire around them. Hope everyone else is o.k.

Whew Granni.....you were lucky. Even with all the tree damage, it coulda been worse. Being in Southwest Missouri, I can really sympathize. Wild pictures, you just go ahead and keep all that wind down there.

Again I'm glad you and Gene came thru o.k., but keep your eyes open, cause I just watched the Weather Channel and it looks like were in for a week of it.

We got hit too, live about 10 miles west of Granny.

Had a 20' walnut tree about 40' for the house blown over, ripped the roots right out of the ground.

The good thing about the storms we had last December is not many limbs left to break.

oh gosh you guys. We get threats but have been very lucky. The tornado that hit Iris Road wasn't too far from here.

Time for the weather to settle down.

I am real glad that I live in Central Oregon. I would be out of there if that even thought of doing what happen. Glad that you are OK. Those wind storms are something to recon with. We have some wind, but not hard enough to take porches off. Have had a couple of tree top break off, but nothing on the house, so far.

Hey, Signs, where do you live? I noticed that there was a lot of damage in the down town area and just east of down town. There are quite a few teardroppers in our area. Luckily we had ours in the garage so it didn't get any damage. Hope you are o.k.

Bruce, that is Oklahoma for you. We have lived with toronado's and wind all our lives but I will never get used to it. We have been in several toronado's, on the edge or just under them, but have never lost our home. Have had some damage but as long as we are o.k. then the damage is not that important. The winds were clocked at over 70 miles an hour today and that is windy.

I am glad Mike & Auntie M didn't get the after blow from us and Julie, glad you missed it too. Didn't you have some storms down there? Linda,
hope all is well with you both. You have had some storms lately haven't you? I thought the Dallas area got hit just not too long ago. Maybe you are too far south to have gotten it.

I think it is time to settle down and do some camping. We need the rain for the gardens but not the wind.

Betty, Gene, Julie and other OK teardroppers,

Sorry to hear of that mean ol' wind, and glad to hear you are all okay. We had one touch down in Windsor, which is north east of Denver, a few weeks ago that did a lot of damage, but all is fine at my house...

Know that Brandie and I are thinking of you....

Grani:

Glad to hear you are ok after that nasty storm. Even though you go through them kinda often, you never get used to it. Being raised in Louisiana, I was used to having hurricanes and tornadoes around but it still scares the bajeebers out of you each time.

My sister was in a tornado in 1984 and it took her single wide mobile home and blew it up. Seriously. She was inside and was able to crawl out on the ground after it was finished but there was nothing left. She was lucky and quite embarrased at the same time...she only had time to put her jeans on before it raised up, flipped over and exploded. Soooo, the neighbors not only witnessed the tornado destroying Chelle's home but got a peep show at the same time. It was sad...but funny too. But to this day, she is terrified of bad weather.

Grani,

I am about 10 miles from the big money pit ( I mean Casino). We are just east of Owasso.

I know that is not funny but it sounds so familiar. Every time the weather gets bad, I get up and get dressed for that very reason. Gene makes fun of me but I told him I wasn't flying around showing everything I've got. It would scare the neighbors to death anyway. I am going out prepared.
I am glad she wasn't hurt. The guys came out and cleared off the roof and there was a big hole in it so we aren't through yet. At least it didn't come all the way through. ( Oh, I'll bet Chelle didn't even get paid for the show. )
