They are bring a Tesla Motors plant here to Albuquerque. Maybe I'll spot one here. I don't think so though at the price they are selling them for the avrage joe couldn't afford it.

...right now Paul, they are primarily a West Coast thing...I have been following their progress for a couple of years now and they seem to really be onto something that the big auto makers seem to have missed or ignored...right now they just have the sleek little sportscar (body by Lotus) but they do have plans for a 4door sedan and a SUV...I do wish 'em lotsoluck...by the way, have read much of the stuff on their website and their plans for "solar cooperatives"...innovative to say the least.........

Thanks MJ. Looks like they will sell for around $140k down here. A little out of my league and, at my age, I'm not sure I can get down that low anymore

The last I read (which was a while ago) the rollout was delayed because of transmission troubles. The transmissions weren't holding up as designed. They were thinking about giving the initial customers the "bad" transmissions and installing "good" ones when they became available.

Don't know if they got the transmission thing ironed out.

There is a conversion kit and a 2008 Scion "BOX" that is like that setup. I think the "BOX" is $40k last time I looked.

For that price, it only makes sense if we have a true gas shortage. You wouldn't want to buy that car if money was tight, and you just wanted to save a few bucks.

But lets say you're a doctor, due to supply disruptions or something, you can't get gas at any price. That car would be perfect.

Now if the price would come down to $40K, like the GM Volt, then it becomes effective for the masses... albeit slightly more expensive.

Here's a quick review of the price of car plus gas over 5 years driving 20K miles, gas = 4.15, diesel = 4.89

Prius $21500, annual gas:$1177, 5 year total: $27387
Jetta TDI $23000, annual diesel: $1899, 5 year total: $32495
Volt $40000, annual gas:$369, 5 year total: $41844

I sent Glenn, aka CD, aka Casey Dog, an e-mail and he explained that it is a great little track car. Something to frighten the begees out of the Ferrari and Lambo drivers, with no noise. Apparently they have a SUV and a Wagon on the drawing boards, too.
