Electricians help needed / commercial ice machine

Postby kartvines » Tue Jul 01, 2008 12:57 pm

Electricians , let me ask you a questions.

Over the week end I bought a commercial ice machine for my crews, and they told me they ran it from a step up transformer, which must not have been true because as soon as I plugged it in, it fried.

What I have is a ice machine that voltage needs are 208 to 230. 60 Hz
ph 1 2 wire
minimum circuit amp of 13.0 with a max branch circuit fuse or HACR circuit breaker of 20.0

Before I invest in hireling a electrician I want to know if I can run this from a step up transformer safely and if so what would the KVA requirement be?

Mike, I am not an electrician, but whenever you halve the voltage(230vac>>>115VAC) you double the amperage and vice versa...so for a 230VAC/13A unit you would need 26A(call it 30) of 115VAC power...so if you have a step-up transformer, that can handle the power requirements, it seems like it should maybe(disclaimer) work

p.s a handy 230v line would be a lot better though.......MJ

p.p.s. and it's been YEARS since I stayed at a Holiday Inn ;) ..............MJ
...I have come to believe that, conflict resolution, through violence, is never acceptable.....................mj
