My bad. The title on the video said "Fatal Accident." Maybe they meant the cover over the driveway . . .

it has to be staged..no one in their right, or left mind would make a gas station canopy with brick columns holding it up..they use steel to make canopy's.

Jim, I think it's a bank canopy, note the plastic vacuum tube that first comes unattached from the base. Doug

Or could be the very bad build on the awning. It looks like it just barely catchs the corner. Also looks like it only crushs a partial part of the truck and not the whole cab or that guy would have died.

Bad architectural and engineering design...
I'd be interseted to know what state it is...
I wouldn't be surprised if the guy's insurrance company doesn't go after the engineer/architect and the bank for faulty design.

Here's the posting from yesterdays discussion on this:

FROM SHELBY COUNTY TODAY:
At approximately 3 PM, Tuesday, July 2, a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, pulling a new travel trailer, hit the corner of the Texas State Bank Drive-In
on Tenaha Street, causing the complete awning to come to the ground.
Luckily, the driver of the Dodge, Mickey Miller, of Garrison and his 10 year old son were able to exit their vehicle uninjured.
According to Miller he was circling the bank to park on the other side when the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bank awning.
Next thing he heard was a rumble as the awning started falling against his driver's side door. Somehow he was able to unbuckle the
seat beat and exit the other side of his truck as it was falling.
Mark Ivy of Texas State Bank stated that the main lobby would be open for business while the drive-in is being repaired.

Doug, my bad..your right..you'd think a bank would build something a little more sturdy.

From the other thread, here's some aftermath pictures:

I'm glad the guyis ok. There is no doubt that canopy was not properly built. A properly built canopy would tear the roof right off a travel trailer with only minimal damage to the canopy. I think an investigation by the local building inspector is in order.

mass...momentum...leverage...a lot of combined vehicle weight, moving at a pretty good clip...possibly accelerating and the awning is cantilevered out past the center island, giving leverage to make a "perfect storm" for the disaster shown...don't know about the build quality but the whole design looks suspect to me.............
