Carthage, Texas to Orlando, Florida - (Disney trip 2001)
1000 miles in 16 hrs non stop except for fuel and potty breaks.
Did the same on the return trip - we drove through the night while our daughter slept. Guaranteed to NEVER do that again. Now we stay a night on the road.

By myself, with stops only for gas/food, 980 miles (18 hours) from Fayetteville, GA to Tomah, WI (did it twice).

Craig & I switching off driving and stops only for gas/food:

--1345 miles (24 hours) while in college, from Gonvick, MN to Provo, UT and vice versa (did this many times over 5 years).

--1395 miles (25 hours) from Tomah, WI to Provo, UT and vice versa (a few times in the past 5 years)

Lots of 500-600 mile trips together and by myself.

We travel A LOT...

Matt,

We've traveled many long trips with lots of Boy Scouts and Youth Groups, but not that many kids in one long, straight shot.

Not sure I'd want to do it with 9 teenagers in the vehicle (our own two are plenty)...I applaud your stamina! :applause: And I applaud your wife for following with 8 teens :applause: :applause:

...she's definitely a "keeper"

I don't know if you can say that it was "one day" but I drove from Round Rock, TX - Palm Bay, FL 1250mi. Drove it straight thru by myself. It took me about 24hrs, but back then I was used to staying awake for up to 35hrs. There is no way I could do that now.

The next is Willcox, AZ - Round Rock, TX, 830mi. That was on the way home from IRG 1.0, we were going to camp at a state park but it was booked solid, decided to just drive thru.

My parents had a working honeymoon crossing the US and back, visiting prisons, psychiatric hospitals (my father's work) and civil war battlefields (my father's hobby).

And my mother kept a diary of the trip that reveals on 21 October 1950, they did 624 miles in a day (depart 07:15, arrive 01:00) from just outside Chicago to Carlisle, PA, in their 1948 Studebaker Champion with all of 80hp.

One good quote from my mother: "I motored for two hours and covered 108 miles!!" (both exclamation marks are original....) - she had probably never exceeded 50 mph in a car before then.

42 hours

Postby eamarquardt » Mon Aug 11, 2008 9:29 am

Years ago when my wife and I were much younger we drove from New Orleans to the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles) in 42 hours, non stop. Now I have a hard time with three hours in the car.

Cheers,

Gus

Last year we went from Amarillo, Tx to home in Ridgecrest in one day, about 1000 miles towing the teardrop. Back when I was in the Navy I drove from Mesquite, NV to Chicago on a motorcycle stopping long enough to gas up and eat, many times not getting off the bike to even gas it. Never do that again!

In December 2000 I left Albany, Ga between 2 and 3am trying to beat a winter storm out. Drove to my mom's place in Troy, Oh for the normal Christmas time family get together. That alone is ~720 miles (10-11 hours). After resting an hour or two at mom's place, got a call from my sister saying her car was dead.....back in the car. Drove up to Belleville, Mi and back to Troy. Google maps says it's about 1090 miles total.

My 1991 Honda Civic handled it well.

673 Miles. Gerlach, NV to San Diego, CA via the 395. Started at midnight and drove all night. After hour #3 it felt like I had a knife in my lower back. I wanted to take a break, catch a little shut-eye and give my back some relief, but the SUV was so packed with camping gear that I couldn't recline the seat. I will NEVER pack the car that full again. I think that was one of the main reasons for wanting a TD. The idea that I could just stop anywhere and have my bed ready to go was very attractive.

Driving is one of my favorite pastimes. My idea of a vacation is taking a week off work and driving 4,000-5,000 miles. I did it twice last year.

Last fall I drove solo for 28 hours straight; 1,807 miles from Seaside, Oregon to St. Paul, Minnesota. Stopping a total of five times for fuel, munchies, etc. (Pasco WA, Missoula MT, Billings MT, Belville ND, and Barnesville MN).

I left Seaside at 9am Pacific time Saturday, after sleeping a solid 10 hours (The day before, I drove 823 miles from South Lake Tahoe, CA via CA-89 to Mt. Shasta, through Grants Pass, Crescent City and all the way up the Oregon coast - but that's a whole 'nuther story).
I watched the sun set in Idaho, drove all night across Montana, and crossed into North Dakota at dawn.

I had fully intended to stay the night in Billings, but there wasn't a room to be had (that I could afford anyway) because it was hunting season. I was still wide awake, so I figured I'd just press on until I started getting tired, thinking I would stop in Bismarck or Fargo. But, as it turns out I never did.

I made it all the way home by 3pm Central time on Sunday, and stayed up another 6 hours before going to bed.
