And I had just read an article about Nail Gun accidents due to the increased availability to the home owner through the box stores and lower prices.

Did the very thing I'd warned my boys against -- hit a knot and bounced out.

went in at roughly that angle and about that deep just under the skin.

Every thing still works OK but I bet it's gonna be sore tomorrow.
Updated tetanus shot and a week of strong antibiotic.

Yeah, but the wife wants the upstairs divided into two bedrooms. tearing out and remodeling. Its gotta hurt some. But maybe not this much

I know that hurt. I did that myself building portable buildings for my high school summer job. The owner was touring the plant and I did it in front of him not paying attention.
Take care of your hand, It's going to be sore for a while.

Did the same thing about 30 +/- years ago when building houses for a living!!! Was using an air nailer to build wall sections, had my hand about a foot or so above the sill plate holding a stud in place. Still have a nice circular scar where the 16 penny spike hit something, deflected, and came through the sill plate and buried itself in my palm!!! The worst part of the whole ordeal was when they removed it in the emergency room!!! They had me on the table with my arm extended..... the doctor had the nurse lean over my arm to hold it in place and he just YANKED the nail out!!! At that age, I didn't mind the nurse rubbing her appendages on my arm..... but they could have warned me ahead of time what they were going to do!!!

I borrowed my neighbor's nail gun when I built my shed. He said to be careful because everyone who has used it, got a nail stuck in their hand (including him). Luckily, I was the exception to that.

About 15 years ago I was building a garage for my father and was nailing at the top plate. A nail hit something and broke, shot out the side and hit Sharon with a piece of it in the eye at a distance of about 25 feet. We had to have it removed in the ER. A few years before that I was in an awkward position on a ladder using the gun and had my head near the top of it and when I pulled the trigger I didn't think about the air exhaust. Hit me right in the right ear, couldn't hear for 3 days and now have a major loss of voice frequencies in that ear. I find myself reading lips to help me hear if someone isn't on my left side.
I still own a framing, roofing, finishing guns, and 4 different types of staplers that shoot from 1/4" to 3" staples. Wouldn't build without them!

Shot myself too when a nail gun misfired (boss removed the safety springs) and hit me in the thumb. Went through my leather glove and stuck in the second knuckle. Seeing your pic made me shudder....it reminded me of how much mine hurt.

Epson Salt is your best friend to keep it from stiffining up.

We frame 1 1/2 houses a day in the plant. I have hauled more than 1 dozen employees to the emergency room with nails embedded in their hands. You have to read the wood if there is a big honkin knot you are better off to hand drive or even better pre drill thru the knot. Our guys have shot the guy across the table after hitting a knot. I tell them to just plain avoid them but it still happens. I have seen the entire knot explode out of the board and black an eye. I have use a nail gun for 15 + years and have had only 2 very minor pricks in the palm of my hand but they can be dangerous and it is best to use your head (AND LOOK OUT FOR KNOTS).

Glad to hear you are okay and that the wound wasn't more severe. The same safety rule applies for nailguns, brad guns, staplers--don't place your hand anywhere near the nail. Those deflected nails and staples punch thru skin easier than wood.
