This a being sent around the internet Should be of interest to all travelers

NEW POISONOUS SPIDER IN THE UNITED STATES
A spider bite...please read.............

And you thought the brown recluse was bad!!!
Three women in North Florida , turned up at hospitals over a 5-day period, all with the same symptoms. Fever, chills, and vomiting, followed by muscular collapse, paralysis, and finally, death.
There were no outward signs of trauma. Autopsy results showed toxicity in the blood.
These women did not know each other, and seemed to have nothing in common
It was discovered, however, that they had all visited the same restaurant (Olive Garden) within days of their deaths. The health department descended on the restaurant, shutting it down. The food, water, and air conditioning were all inspected and tested, to no avail.
The big break came when a waitress at the restaurant was rushed to the hospital with similar symptoms. She told doctors that she had been on vacation, and had only went to the restaurant to pick up her check.
She did not eat or drink while she was there, but had used the restroom.
That is when one toxicologist, remembering an article he had read, drove out to the restaurant, went into the restroom, and lifted the toilet seat.. Under the seat, out of normal view, was a small spider.
The spider was captured and brought back to the lab, where it was determined to be the Two-Striped Telamonia (Telamonia dimidiata ), so named because of its reddened flesh color. This spider's venom is extremely toxic, but can take several days to take effect. They live in cold, dark, damp climates, and toilet rims provide just the right atmosphere.
Several days later a lawyer from Jacksonville showed up at a hospital emergency room. Be fore his death, he told the doctor, that he had been away on business, had ta ken a flight from Indonesia , changing planes in Singapore , before returning home. He did not visit (Olive Garden), while there. He did, as did all of the other victims, have what was determine d to be a puncture wound, on his right buttock.
Investigators discovered that the flight he was on had originated in India
The Civilian Aeronautics Board (CAB) ordered an immediate inspection of the toilets of all flights from India , and discovered the Two-Striped Telamonia spider's nests on 4 different planes!
It is now believed that these spiders can be anywhere in the country.
So please, before you use a public toilet, lift the seat to check for spiders. It can save your life!
And please pass this on to everyone you care about.

In 2002, the spider became the subject of an email hoax claiming that it was a fatal spider found lurking under toilet seats in North Florida. This hoax was a rehashing of an older email circulated in 1999 with similar claims, except under the name "South American Blush Spider (arachnius gluteus[sic])" - literally "butt spider". No such events ever occurred.

I thought it might be real, until a few lines into the story, and then the toilet seat part really made my BS sensors start to go off.

Thanks 48Rob for saving me a trip to Snopes.com.

The thing that gets me about these "stories" is that they're usually written well, or well enough to get your attention.

However, in this information age, if I see some really important warning or information being passed around, I stop and try to remember if it was on the morning news (or evening as it were) and if not, I have to stop and wonder...

If people are DYING because of a spider, or an alien, or whatever, it will probably be the major headline of the day, or week all across our country, and likely the world...?

This reminds me of somehting that happened here.

We had a carnival come to town and my husband is a volunteer for the local fire dept. and he was helping run the first aid station when a carnival worker came in with a strange bite, they diagnosed as a spider bite (Brown Recluse).
About 10 minutes later another worker came in with the same bite, then the 1st carny came back in with another bite, followed by another carny.

I believe they treated about 12 bites that night, and some of the workers went ahead and went to the local ER.

The carnival workers tried to get the county to pay for their ER visits, saying the park they set up in was full of the spiders, but only the carnival workers were bitten, not one visitor was bitten.

The carnival trailers must have been invested with the spiders, kinda creepy.

going to start an urban legend that microwaving in plastic dishes causes sterility in men. Throw in some believable bogus scientific info about resins leaching out the plastic and make up some official sounding organization and see how far it goes. With the news about some chemicals leaching of plastics in the current news – it would have a factual appeal! Now where did I put my Big foot costume – time for a an inquirer photo shoot

Caution; Plastic Dinnerware!

I have it on good authority that you have to be really careful using certain plastic dishes available at stores in the Midwest in your microwave oven.

Seems some of the dishes are made with a resin that has some nasty chemical in it, and men between the ages of 19 and 64 can become sterile if they ingest enough of the resin.
The resin is colorless, odorless, and tasteless.
It leaches out of the plate and into your food when heated in the microwave.
It is only a problem when the plate and food are cooked on the "high" setting.
Low and medium don't cause any leaching.

The institute for mens health says women must be careful too, if trying to become pregnant, as sterility can cause major complications with the process.
