Do you have ADD when building?

Postby WarPony » Sun Sep 28, 2008 5:32 pm

My girlfriend told me she thinks I have adult ADD. She claims she has watched me build the last two campers and noticed I don't ever finish one thing to it's completion before I start on another part.

MY CLAIM: There are alot of different things going on in a TD/TTT build and you can't do one thing without incorporating another part so it all kind of blends together.

I mean, building/buying the frame and getting that ready is the start. Put the floor on and getting the walls up is the next part.... roof spars.... From there it is a free-for-all!!!!!!!

Just because I jump around or 4 or 5 different things doesn't make me ADD, I just get bored.

Do any of you do the same thing?

Jeff

Not just while building.....while doing anything. I currently have about 5 different projects going, including the tear.
My boyfriend and two of my friends couldn't understand why I was building an easel last weekend when the camper is so close to being done. Well, duh, I wanted to paint, and if I'm gonna paint, I need an easel.
My excuse was that when I work on something big that takes a long time, I need to break it up with smaller projects that I can complete somewhat quickly so that I can have the satisfaction of finishing something.
The real reason...I'm just insane.

I have not started building yet..but i completely understand what you are saying. even while i am thinking about building and planning i will look at a fan for a few minutes and while looking at the fan, i see a tv mounted in the tear i was looking at for the fan...i find myself then on google trying to find a tv to fit...then while i am looking for that i think..hmm....well, if i needed to have cable i need a cable outlet so i need an outside outlet...so oh, but wait what about that shore power outlet i need...black or chrome..hmmm..black, i guess that will go nicely with the other colors..hmm...painting..what kind of paint am i going to use...etc etc etc etc....you get the point....and oh look its a squirrel!! :Oh Brother:

The problem is: when you are building a teardrop you need to have the entire build sequence in mind. Otherwise you'll put on a skin before you pull the wire for the light, or something equally silly.

And when you have a complex teardrop loaded into your mind, that's a lot of information. It's easy to forget about everything else.

What time did you say it was? Was I supposed to cook dinner? Opps!!!

Mike...

ok, My two cents. How crazy is it that I didn't even have my first tear done when I started to make notes (and cut parts for) the next build. I'm looking forward to pulling it to my first gathering columbus day weekend. By november, I'll start to assemble the downeastear II, Who knows where it'll stop. Like Swiss Army Girl, I haven't even mentioned the "other" projects. Walt

Sorry Jeff....but therein lies your problem...It's tough to want to take care of the little things, I'll be the first to admit that...but I think when it's all said and done, you're happier when you do. I think the worst feeling is to think...I wish I would have done this or that, so much easier to do it from the get go. Anyone that starts a tear, gets a frame done, sides up, roof on...gets all jazzed about it really starting to look like something...then hits a brick wall on the small stuff....In the words of H Ross Perot..."that's where the rubber meets the road"! You just gotta slug through it. I can't bring myself to do "campable" It's gotta be done...can't drive a car in primer either...Doug

Fergit ADD, I suffer from TBD...uhh...that would be Temporal Burnout Disorder...uhh, or its cousin TBD_WIGAI...To Be Done_When I get After It ...

That's the disease where you go in great spirts of energy and enthusiasm...then get distracted...or burnt out...or run out of money...or the fish are biting...or the landscape needs attention...or..or..or...
