Real or hoax??

Postby The Teardrop Nanny » Tue Oct 28, 2008 9:38 am

:o I'm from the area listed in the first post and want to know, and I believe, it to be a parody. The one following that Kevin posted DID REALLY happen to an elderly couple living in the area where I teach.
The husband was fortunate to escape death because of his wife's courage and quick thinking.

Hey

Truth be known; I'm surprised she didn't kill somebody, a 150lb cat can do a lot of damage and I hope the articles style was meant to be a joke. Although I think it diminishes the seriousness of the encounter and is in poor taste. IMHO! :dead:

Why hasn't anyone found a dead bigfoot? When was the last time you found a dead deer, bear, coyote, fox, squirrel, etc. that died in the woods.........Hmmm.

Yes, it was a parody of a real event. Was it poor taste because it took the animal's point of view? Does that make you feel queasy as a human? A mountain lion is territorial by nature and prefers areas which are not highly populated. "Progress" has collapsed their territories down over time. But it is also a predator. If someone stumbles into its area, bad things could happen. I'm happy that the person in the REAL article survived. I'm not saying he deserved it but if you go into areas like that you have to know that it's a possibility. Some people ask for it, but most of the time it's just an unfortunate incident. In either case, the animal in question is just being what it is, a wild animal protecting its territory, protecting its young or trying to survive (unless of course there is a medical problem...i.e. rabies, etc.). Sometimes we have to realize that we aren't always at the top of the food chain.

BTW, I think using an emoticon of someone beating a dead horse is in poorer taste than that article, but that's just MHO.

 I didn't think it diminished the seriousness at all. I think it makes a vivid point about going into the wild unprepared. If the cat had been looking to eat it would surly have attacked a child. It let them live.

They just aren't getting more populated... They're getting bigger and losing fear of humans.
I had an absolute amazing encounter last night on my trip over to the valley...

The Onion is a parody website. Read some of the other stories. When you publish as many parody stories as they do you will make some people upset.
