Price of Gasoline?

Postby SteveH » Tue Mar 29, 2005 8:47 pm

So, how much is gasoline where you live? It's $2.04 on the average here for regular, and this is Texas, where there are lots of refineries and some oil production. Heard on the news tonight they expect it to go higher this summer.

Maybe we should be designing alternative fuel systems instead of teardrops.

I went to the Dr today and went by a gas station where gas was $2.29 for regular and there was a line waiting to fill up. I didn't drive around but it must have been more at other stations. The Dr said it was $2.18 yesterday.

My pickup takes premium and it was $2.59 at that station :(

An easy alternative fuel is alcohol. A permit to produce as much alcohol one can make for use as a fuel can be had from the ATF. Still plans are available for free from Mother Earth News. The best part is that many vehicles since 1996 have been produced to run on alcohol. They're called FFV's, mostly sold to fleet operations in the beginning, now many can be had off the show room floor. They're easy to identify from a vehicles vin code.

I don't worry too much about the price, but I do tend to try to clump trips together, but I alway have.... I'm not the type that jumps in the car to get a quart of milk........ but I have been known to do it for a hershey bar.

I've also not noticed people driving anymore frugally...... they still climb up my back bumper when I go 5 over the speed limit.....

I've also noticed a funny thing.... lots of fast drivers, but not a lot of good drivers. We have a couple of 2 lane roads with passing zones. Often, a car or two will be 30 feet behind me, but will not pass even when there is ample opportunity..... I guess younger people are used to expressways where everyone is going the same direction and they don't have to judge distances well....... just an observation...... but an interesting one for me.

oh, gas? $2.07/gallon is the cheapest at the cheapest gas station in a 15 mile radius....

gas around here is 2.08 -2.15 . Oh well we do the best with what we got I guess. :worship:

2.42$ /gal here in No. Ca. I'm outside of Sacramento. I hate to think of what it is up at Tahoe especially at the marinas for the boat this summer. Glad I got a 4 stroke on the boat.  Doug Hodder

Price for unleaded regular in on the Central Coast of California is $2.46 which is up from this weekend by around 10 cents per gallon. I have predicted $3.00 per gallon before the end of summer. Hope I am wrong!

It was $2.13 when I was out last night, no idea if it went up again today. I can say one thing for certain, my dump truck doesn't see any casual driving these days. It only goes out if it is absolutely necessary.

I'd be willing to bet that Kevin, Jerome and I pay the highest gas prices of anyone in the U.S.
The local distributor pretty much has his way with folks here on the North Coast.
We better stop whinning though, because I'm sure if anyone has a right to whine about gasoline prices... Andrew has claim to that right.

I think that we're seeing an entire new generation of young drivers that have learned to drive on the "X" box. ...or some other video "teacher." It seems like the last 6 months or so, I've really seen some absolutely CRAZY ludicrous driving such as intense weaving through traffic at high rates of speed and blasting down the shoulders or speeding long distances to pass traffic while in the suicide lane. It's like high speed pursuits on those "Real Police Video" shows except these people aren't being chased. Maybe it's just the voices in their heads.

Anyway, I think that high price of gasoline is going to make our teardrop trailers look a whole LOT better. I know my old Volvo will get mine to the campground on a miniscule fraction of the gas that some of the other campers will be pumping through their V8s to get those 5th wheels and Class A motorhomes there.

You didn't think I was going to keep quiet about this, did you?
Gas (petrol) here is $5.40 per US gallon ($1.50 per litre) - approx 75% of this is tax.

I actually had a young lady bump me coming out of Birmingham AL on I-20 East. I was in the right lane and a 18 wheeler in the left lane going slower than I. This dude (can you call a girl a dude???) pulls out from behind the truck runs up behind me right on my bumper. I'm watching her in the mirror. Then she actuall hits me in the rear. My first cousin asks me if I'm gonna stop. Oh! NO! Heard too many tails of bump and rob stories. Anyway, This little Hyundai bumper done been hit 3 times. I'll wait for the next one and get it all fixed then. Maybe I need to drive faster??? :D

Gas Prices? West GA 1.99 to 2.15. We both got 30 mi/gal cars - my Hyundai and the wife's Scion. It still hurts. Oh My 2.4 L nissan truck gets about 22 mpg. It just does "special tasks" She's 10 years old and got 170,000 on her but I'd trust her to take me to the West coast and back. She pulled the Aliner to Maine and back year before last.

Hey, I gotta get out there and work on the TD. Enough of this.

In two weeks, off to VA. Went to home depot yesterday and picked up some 1/2" birch ply... cheaper to use that at $40/sheet than buy enough 3/4" pine. A couple of wide shelves for jackets, tv, heater...a new hook up for shore power and wire up the battery..... hope I make it....
