WINDOWS XP Crash

Postby Prem » Fri Oct 16, 2009 12:45 am

My fairly new (13 months) computer just crashed running Windows XP Pro. It won't boot.

Problem?

Not really. I had a second operating system put on the hard drive when I first got it. :phew: So I'm now able to keep using my computer without any down time thanks to Ubuntu Linux, which is a free operating system and software package. As you can see, it works just fine on the forums. I even resized photos and posted them to my thread earlier today using Ubuntu.

I back up my photos and documents every few days to a USB memory stick. So, I lost nothing except Microsoft. :D

Pity is that the last Microsloth competitor in the comodity computer market decided that suing there customers was the way to win. As a result the long time SCO shop I work at has moved to Microsloth. We really had no choice. Newer hardware is not supported by SCO and while linux is great for personal use the comercial linux vendors like SUSE and RedHat cause no end of grief with there daily update program. Literally the day came while we were preparing to deploy a linux server that we realized that the only way to do that was to turn of updates entirely! And this was after only a few weeks of trying to get things out the door.

Hi prem , been using Ubuntu for over 2 years now & no problems like Windows. No virus or spyware like Windows. I support over 3000 computers at work with Windows& 25 blade servers with Windows & I certainly prefer Ubuntu over Winders! :applause: :applause:

Glad to hear you were able to boot to your other OS, and that you have good backups.

I agree that Windows is the weakest option, and always has been. The thing that keeps me on Windows is that almost all enterprise data systems are on Windows exclusively. Also because I do software development for a living on the Windows environment.

Go Microsoft!!! :D (I will root for anyone that gets me paid)

Boodro,

In your album, this photo just begs me to ask who did this and how far did they get?
