The earth gets hit by more than 6 tons of space rock and dust every day, it's just that most of it hits in the ocean or the unpopulated majority of the earth....
There was a basketball size explosion over western Ontario, just this Sunday morning caught on an all-sky camera.
The NEAR project is only able to track astreoids, larger than the mentioned 3 meter size of the Indonesian asteroid effectively

As Jack Horkheimer is so fond of saying "Keep Looking Up" oh and maybe wear a hard hat.
