if you are a dog person......

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

if you are a dog person......

Postby Arne » Sun Nov 08, 2009 10:00 am

As some of you are aware, I volunteer for the New England Border Collie Rescue, a non-profit rescue group staffed entirely by volunteers (there are no paid positions at any level), to find good homes for border collies that have been given up by their owners. Some have been rescued from filthy puppy mills by the authorities, some from private owners. All are in need of better homes.

There is a contest being held for the most popular border collie rescue in each state. The winner receives a cash prize which will be used to pay veterinarian bills, buy crates, toys, dog food, etc.

If you can take the time, about one minute, you can help NEBCR to win in CT, by voting using the attached link. The picture below shows what has to be entered, the name of the group, and the state. After you click 'vote', you are taken to a second page which show a picture of an animal (cow, horse, cat, etc.). Type in the name of the animal and be sure to click on 'confirm' and you will see a message that your vote has been counted/confirmed.

I do this each day, from each of the 3 isps I use, Mozilla, Goggle Chrome and Internet Explorer.

All I am asking is that you vote just one time. I have visited the foster homes where the abandoned dogs are kept until adopted out to loving homes. Some dogs, especially from puppy mills, require a lot of dedicated time just to get them socialized. And some are never brought to a level where they can be adopted out (because of earlier trauma and mistreatment). Those dogs will remain at the foster homes for the rest of their lives. No dog is ever put down by my group, they are either adopted out or stay with a loving and understanding foster family.

If you choose to you can vote once per day per isp. All I'm asking is that you vote one time. The contest ends sometime in December.

This is a description of NEBCR.

Who We Are
We are a group of Border Collie Rescue volunteers who work together in the New England states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, and in Eastern New York State and Northern New Jersey, to find homes for stray, abandoned or unwanted Border Collies. We have no shelter. Dogs are fostered in private homes.

Thank you for your consideration.

 Voted! And I will certainly cast a vote everyday.

Our first dog is a border collie. I grew up in the city and never had a dog until about 10 years ago when we adopted Roxanne. She was said to be a "beagle mix" and being rookies we believed it until the vet told us otherwise.

Roxanne is a high spirited, very high energy dog who really broke us in as doggie parents! This is not a breed for the faint hearted and I can see where there would be a need for rescue organizations for them.

Roxanne is still our alpha even though we have since adopted 6 other dogs.

Voted Arne. Thanks for caring and volunteering though I'm sure the work is sooo rewarding that a "thanks" is redundant!

I've just voted Arne

Robertaw, over here in old England, Border Collies are better known as sheep dogs. They are perfect for rounding up sheep when trained to do so. They're very clever dogs and just love excercise.
Our Scooby has a bit of Collie in him. He will fetch a ball for as long as you can throw it .

Voted. My Princess is a Caanan/Border Collie mix that I rescued. She has all the hard headed qualities of both breeds.

not at all.... just goes to show how intelligent these great dogs are.... I see it all the time at the trials I judge... how many dogs can you tell to run away from you, go 2,000 feet and pick up 10 sheep, then bring them back...

Now THAT is amazing! :applause:

Our Roxanne used to herd the neighbors cows every chance she got. She was never trained for such things but was born knowing how.
