Anyone gone TDing in Glacier NP and Banff NP?

Postby Roly Nelson » Tue Dec 22, 2009 10:41 pm

I'm trying to talk my (OLD) brother into flying out this summer, so we can go a-teardrop camping again, perhaps this time North to Glacier Nat'l Park and maybe on up to Banff, in Canada. Anyone have any info on what the weather would be like up there during the summer months? Come on fellow Canadians, fill me in..........it really isn't that cold is it?
8) ;) Roly, repacking the bearings and adding new varnish (again) in preparation for another double-brother, wonder trip.

Kalispell, MT is a great place to camp for Glacier. You can't have anything longer than 21' including trailer and TV for the Road to the Sun Hwy.. Do not miss that! Summer months can get hot. I can recommend Spruce Lake Campground in Kalispell. You can get a campsite that backs up to the Flathead River ( see album). Cable and Wi-Fi included for a very reasonable price. I was there in mid June and again in early September 2007. Both stays had excellent weather. Don't know anything about Banff; hope to someday find out.
It is great to hear that you and your brother are planning to share some great times together. And, of course, we will want pictures.

Roly...my wife and I (with our little kids) went to the Calgary Stampede several times and camped out of town but near the light rail. That worked really well for us because you can get to both the Zoo and the Stampede without driving. I think you need to be thinking tickets if you want to go. Its around mid July.

Come on up Roly!

Banff is beautiful. July and August will be the warmest months, however due to the altitude it can get a bit cold at night, just don't expect the warm pacific nights of California.

Some weather info from Parks Canada, sorry it's metric but hey thats what we use up here.

Be sure to keep us informed as I'm sure you could get a few of us Canucks to drive to Banff to say hi, welcome you, and check out the Half Nelson.

EDIT: I just realized my avatar picture was taken in Banff.

It,s been many years but I used to backpack camp in Banff and Jasper park which is further north. The nights can get quite cool, just take a sweater and a light jacket along.
