Who else is snowbound?

Postby dakotamouse » Fri Dec 25, 2009 11:02 pm

Got home last night from celebrating Christmas with the inlaws and haven't left the house since. Probably won't tomorrow either. We have a heck of a blizzard going on here in N.D.

Who else is holed up at home?

Same here. I-29 from Iowa to North Dakota border is closed. Had Christmas eve, older brother and his wife made the 3 mile drive on a 4 wheeler, only one that didn't make it was my younger brother and his wife and his kids(8, 6, and 2), we called and told him not to even try it(30 mile drive). Haven't even stepped out of the house since Wednesday. Hope to get out Sunday.
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

I29 is also closed through ND to the Canadian border. Also I94. No travel is advised on any of our roads. All snow plows have been pulled. We are supposed to celebrate Christmas with my family at Mom and Dad's on Sunday but that is looking kinda iffy.

I heard on the news any Canadians trying to cross the border at Emerson were turned back due to the storm. In Winnipeg the storm missed us but we got enough to call it a white Christmas. Stay safe and warm down there, a lot of U.S. states got hammered by snow this weekend.

We haven't been able to get out since Christmas Eve. I have a tractor and a 6' blower, but it's not big enough to handle this one. The neighboring farmer said he'll bring his big rig over first thing. I-29 to the Canadian Boarder to Grand Forks open this afternoon. Still closed to Fargo.

Snow total 25.5"

We were able to get out today but Gene had to work with the door to get the snow moved enough to open it. Then he got the big tractor out and spent the day plowing out the neighbors. Our garage doors all had 2 1/2 to 3 ft. drifts in front of them so guess he will clear that out tomorrow. Our son had his diesal truck on the south side of the house, in front, but the doors were frozen shut on it. They finally got the doors open but the roads are too bad to go anywhere. So---------, he has all his insulated clothes on and out helping the neighbors. Did I say we have several single ladies who need his help? No comments please.

Storm seems to be over. We finished out with a record breaker for the snowiest Christmas day ever. We had 9.2 inches. Minot had 24 inches. Things are so bad there a local snowmobile club is assisting the police department and getting them where they need to go.

At least it wasn't all that cold. The temps were around 15 to 20 through out.

 We only got about 6 inches of freezing rain and then snow. The road crews have kindly plowed down to the ice so we can go if we wish. Way to go guys.

Ity seemed like kind of a non blizzard here..
We spent xmas eve at my folks in rollag and home then after breakfast xmas day we drove down to karries mom and dads in pine city mn. It just wasnt that bad. Im pretty sure it was scare tactics by the media to keep people at home. the roads across mn were decent with the exeption of minnesota 18 east of mille lacs lake. It was not plowed and was glad to have a 4wd. The wifes buick would have drug the bottom for 30 miles..
Roads were slick fropm perham to home today. Lots of cars in the ditch along US 10..

Very rarely do I get snowbound... though I only have a minivan with front wheel drive, I can easily get through 8 inches of snow with 4 snow tires mounted... so I might be in until the first snow plow goes by, but that is it..

The snows are on their own rims, so I swap them fall and spring with the 'reil' tires..... The black steel rims are ugly, but I can go most anywhere I want to.

I like driving on highways during/after a snow storm as I stay in the snow covered lane for better traction while the guys with 'all weather' tires follow each other nose to tail in one lane.

Arrrgggghhh! Ice on the roads is the worst! We were lucky there. It was plenty cold so we only had snow.

Hope everyones Christmas was good. I finished getting all my customers cleaned up last night. Today I get to fix equipment. Yea! Lots of fun. 5 days in the tractor was enough for me. Once a week would be "OK"
