FJ Cruiser

Does anyone on this forum drive or know someone who drives an FJ Cruiser? Katy and I are looking at them and we wanted to talk to someone about one.

Justin, Katy--

We bought ours new in summer 2008.

We have only pulled the TD once, but that included up some steep hills and over some dirt roads. We just had to remember the trailer was back there. It has better visibility than our truck with the camper shell, but not as much visibility as a standard SUV. Haven't had a opportunity to do much snow driving, but plan to do that later this year. 8) The missus occasionally allows me to drive it. Anything specific you are looking for?

We drove one this weekend and we're pretty much sold. I was just wondering how it did with pulling, gas mileage, and maintenance. I really love the way it rides and looks. I just looked at you album. Tell me about your pizza oven

We are getting 18-20mpg, but have gotten 22 on the highway. I hear that the mileage goes down if you use regular fuel. Yeah, we're putting in the premium stuff, so $/mile might be a consideration. If you need/want the ruggedness, the 4WD, the height... then you can't go wrong with a Toyota FJ.

Spinnernut has one that matches his TD -- and has a Sante Fe Railroad train horn. He seems to like it. Park Rangers frown upon the train horn.

Justin--

We weren't interested in a 2WD so never drove one. Have no idea what it rides like. I'm not a fan of putting on chains.

As far as the pizza oven goes, I think there was some discussion over on the Cast Iron area last year. I think CherokeeGeorge might know something about them. 8) George came up with the idea and contracted with a foundry to cast them. Most came out alright, but there were a few George would not accept because they did not meet his quality standards. Those pizza ovens also make some great chocolate chip cookies. If you are at the IRG 3.0 in July you just might see a few of those pizza ovens in use.

FJ Cruiser

Postby queeniejeanne » Thu Jan 14, 2010 12:11 pm

Justin and Katy, We have had one for 1 1/2 years had 8,000 miles on it when we bought it August of 2008...it has 43,000 on it now...Pulls our tear with no effort. The headwinds draw down the mileage of course. We do off road a lot, so our tires are 10 ply large tread...Colorado and Moab back trails. Better than my Jeep Rubicon and much smoother ride even with the 10 ply tires. I put regular in with premium every once in a while. 18-22 mpg depending on hills and wind. We were the only vehicle on Tin Cup Pass in Sept. Went over with no problems at all and we didn't come down bruised and beat up like the time we went over in the Jeep. All that was up there where ATVs. Takes thru snow without spinning at all. I have lockers that I've only used once in the mountains. Can't say enough good stuff about it. Had a problem with the alternator a couple of months ago. Warranty covered it fine.
