Oh... So that's what those little icons are called.

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Oh... So that's what those little icons are called.

I was stumblin'-fumblin' around in the control panel for the IRG site and noticed some error reports.
Something about favicon files not found.
Searching on Google as to what the heck a favicon was, the light bulb came on.
So... The little image in the url and in the favorites list is called a favicon.
Reading further, I found a place where I can create a 16 x 16 pixel & 32 x 32 pixel image to use on our site.
Damned...16 x 16 is real small!!!

Question To Those That Use Favicons On Your Websites...
Does your web builder software have this feature built in, or did you have to build it yourself?
Gotta remember... I'm a bit behind the times as far as technology goes.
Heck... 3/4 of my website was built and published using a generator for electricity.

Dean,

You can try one of these:

http://tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/

http://www.favicongenerator.com/

http://www.degraeve.com/favicon/

There are more - do a google search for favicon generator

I didn't know what it was called. I just created a file and uploaded it to the server.

depends on the browser language whether it shows up or not . IE sometimes shows it and sometimes it doesn't. if it showes up then whenever you bookmark the site the favicon shows up in the bookmark as well. Usually the favicon is uploaded to the root directory of the server and the browser finds it due to its file name extension.

Uploading the favicon is easy. Creating a legible 16x16 image that you really like is the hard part.

I never knew what they were called either. And I never knew how easy it was to add them to your website. I went and added them to the 3 websites I take care of.

Thanks for the heads up Dean!

Cliff,
Please ask Billnut if I can borrow those special glasses he uses when using the computer... I'll need 'em so I can see that it's the world's smallest swooshdrop.

Looks like I'm gonna have to redo that or come up with something better. :frustrated:

John,
It's probably because the webmaster keeps changing his mind and doesn't like it.
I'm finding it's real hard to make something look good and be only 16 pixels square.
I tried a swooshdrop first, now I have this... Image
I just realized how to make it better, so I'm gonna switch it again. :frustrated:

Actually what I think is happening is... You probably delete your internet history on a frequent basis, eh?

It takes a while sometimes for the icons to show up.
