Taxes!

Charlie Reese is a former columnist of the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper.

What you do with this article now that you have read it......... Is up to you.
This might be funny if it weren't so true.
Be sure to read all the way to the end:
Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table,

At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor,

Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.
Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts anyway!
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid...
Put these words
Upon his tomb,
Taxes drove me
to my doom...'
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax..

Naw - I don't mind paying taxes "cause i really love driving on paved roads - Having a fire department and police department respond to my call, made possible by the telecommunications tax (the call that is). I really appreciate how electricity is delivered to my home. There are so many "little" things in America that are paid for by taxes of some sort. Concrete walkways aren't put in for "free" but we like to walk on them. We enjoy the safety of street lights, the cleaning out of culverts, and street signs. I guess the point that I'm making is : Sure there are a lot of taxes, But i REALLY like living in America with paved streets. Just my 2 cents (taxed of course!) ;)

+1

Not a big fan for taxes, but it sure beats the alternative.

Well, I, for one, am taxed out.

Congress has this idea that their job is simply to find ways to spend our money. And they are doing it freely. Seems to me, if you want to replace a program and need money, then eliminate the old program.

The US government has a policy of punishing departments for staying on budget. If they do not spend every cent and more, then their budget for next year is cut. It's called "Use it or lose it."

Hardly. You use more than the budget where I work, and you get slammed. Also, the budget gets cut quite often. As do positions and people. I'm in a line of work that if we don't produce a product, our budget gets cut and we are expected to do more with less next year.

So, you produce a product whether it's needed or not, because you'll lose your funding next year if you don't have something.

One of the more interesting classes I took many years ago was an economic anthropology class. And while it discusses trade and trade routes, money etc, much boils down to, how long do you have to work to subsist. At that time there were still bushmen in the Kalahari and they spent about two hours hunting and gathering a day, then they spent the rest of the day sitting around telling tales and of course having sex.
We trade our time for things like, comfort, health care, cars, roads to drive them on teardrops...
