Starbucks will be open Christmas Day...

What?

I notice that more places are advertising they'll be open on Christmas Day.

The Burger King down the street will be open on December 25th, too.

C'mon people...

:) I feel sorry for those who have to work, but a day off is money lost to some. When you make minimum wage it matters... :)

Things change.

To put some perspective on this, Christmas Day wasn't a public holiday in Scotland until 1958, just a normal working day - but to suggest the Scots should work on 1 January would be asking for a revolution.

Should all gas stations be closed on Christmas Day?

Many essential services have to be open during Christmas Day. Police, fire, hospitals, emergency vet clinics, etc. When I was working at an emergency vet hospital, I worked every holiday that you can name, most multiple times. Even worked one Christmas Eve as a cop. That was the night Aubrey Hawkins was shot. That will be 10 years ago on Friday. The worst night of my police career.
:(

As for Starbucks, I guess for some people their morning coffee can be described as an ''essential service" each morning.

No argument there. I'm thankful for anyone who wears a uniform so that I don't have to.

Years ago, when I was in radio and my parents would rather sleep in on Christmas Day, I'd offer to work the morning shift for the guy who usually had it. I'd offer to work for no charge so they could be home with their family and kids and not suffer a financial hit. The station had to be on the air by the terms of our licence.

Starbucks and Burger King falls in to a different catagory for me. Yes, many gas stations are closed around here. As are auto parts, clothing stores and even many Seven-Eleven stores.

I didn't meet my former brother-in-law for years... he was in the navy, single, and volunteered to work on all the holidays, so those who had families could spend the day with them. Never came home for Christmas, Thanksgiving...

I've never had to work on Christmas day, but I've worked many a Christmas eve, and quite a few New Year's eves (at one job, the yearly inventory took place on NYE, and we didn't leave until the supervisors were satisfied, often well past midnight), and a couple of Easters... Not so bad, the whole attitude of the workplace changes for the day... most of the time.

I remember being in high school and meeting a friend downtown on Christmas Day, just to walk around and talk. I was shocked to see the movie theatre open. I had no idea that anyone would go to see a movie on Christmas. But this was my first time leaving the house/neighborhood on that day.

I worked for the PO for 24 yrs. Always worked those Monday "holidays".

My son is a shift supervisor for Starbucks. He's working Christmas day. When I was his age I was Graveyard cook for Sambo's and I worked Christmas Eve through 6:00 am Christmas day, and the same on New Year's. It was fine Christmas. The drunks were a bit much on New Year's.
God Bless

I usually work Christmas Eve and will again this year, but I am thankful we are closed Christmas day. For those who work Christmas day, I feel for them, but I also realize that they may need this paycheck. And there are some people who simply don't have anywhere to go. For this reason, I am thankful that at least some of these businesses will open. In this way, maybe these folks will get a friendly smile from the workers, a hot cup of joe or a warm meal on Christmas Day. :)

Working on Christmas Eve is really no big deal when I think if it like that. Actually, I realize how blessed I am. :worship:

These are uniforms for a "much" different cause - strictly entertainment. But all of the athletes (and coaches) in Christmas tournaments and other holiday match ups that we enjoy watching so much are away from their families. Phil Jackson does not like it at all. ---->Phil Jackson dislikes Christmas Day games. <---- A little known fact about Phil is that he was raised by two Christian ministers and has deep respect for observing Christmas.

My younger brother is an assistant coach for a major college and his team always gets invited to holiday tournaments. He hasn't been home on Thanksgiving day in 10 years.
