Love 'the GIMP' as it is, but this branch of it is good to see since there are so many PS users who don't give the GIMP a shot because of the interface.

I have a new computer and my old photo program wouldn't work with the new system so just the other night I down loaded GIMP2. Been playing with it off and on just trying to learn every thing it does. One thing, it's not as simple as what my 'Picture-it' was. But I'm finding that it does so much more and once I get a handle on it, I will most likely enjoy working with it.

There is another that its quite good for basic editing( not as good as the gimp), but covers for many basics,viewing for a wide range of formats, crop, add text, edit, red eye, etc...
