Why donT typoes shows up untill you prese 'submit"?

Postby caseydog » Wed Jan 26, 2011 6:18 pm

Does anyone else notice that, no matter how careful you are to read your posts before submitting them, the typos hide until you click on the "submit" button, and publish your mistakes for all the world to see?

It drives me nuts! :fb

Murphy's publishing law.

I've been in publishing for over 20 years. Typos hide until after you've printed 150,000 copies of an issue and it's in the mail. Usually the typo is found by an important advertiser.

They are funny when they turn up in real life too . I was reading a recovery pamphlet on acceptable activities after a heart bypass operation . The last item on the list was light Logging is permitted . I live in a rugged area and thought that it was odd but acceptable . Some months later I was reading a similar pamphlet and came across the last line that said Logging is permitted . I suddenly figured out that the same typo was in two different pamphlets . They were trying to say that Jogging was permitted . ..... D.J.

PS I had already sharpened my chainsaw .

All spell cheque catches is if you used an actual word, not if it is the right word, or you left out a word. I am guilty of both, many many many times.

One of my favorites was for a bullitin for clasical quartet that came through town. In a list of venues they have played, Carnegie Rectal Hall was listed.

Along those lines....I've spent four days cleaning my house because I've got company coming tomorrow. I hate housework, am not good at it, and so I usually skip it. Hence the four days I need to "catch up" on it. I finish the last chore, and my company calls and cancels.

I use Microsoft Office and it spills over into other applications including spell check in this context. Or I use Dragon Naturally Speaking (voice recognition) which spells better than I do. I am a glacially paced keyboarder.
