Software for Editing MP4 Files

Does any know of a FREE software that can be used for editing MP4 files or converting them to .MOV files? My camera records video in MP4 format, but I can't edit them with MicroSoft Movie Maker.

I have tried Camtasia Studio 7, but it is not that easy to use.

I don't know of a free MP4 editor. That doesn't mean there isn't a free MP4 editor - just that I don't know. I use SUPER to convert MP4 files to the AVI format that I can edit. Here's a link to the developer's website:

SUPER will convert just about any video file format to MOV, AVI, WMV, MPG, and a whole slew of other video file types. After conversion to the file type of your choice, you can edit it with whatever software you normally use.

I've used avidemux off and on for a couple of years. It's a bit tricky on the saving part at least it was for me. But it is pretty easy on editing.

I've heard that VLC, which is a great player is coming out with an editor that should be good but it is still in the bata stage right now.

If the end result you are looking for is Windows Media video files (.WMV) then you can can use Microsoft Expression Encoder 4. Just put "Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 download" in google and the first link should take you to a download page. It is a free limited version, but that's one of the things that I use it for. It won't save to other formats though.

Quicktime isn't free but is only $30 and is packed with the highest quality H.264 export features and no tricky stuff to use it, just open the video and then go to file-> export and choose your format. (Even exports to .wmv .avi if you want to stay native to PC land too.)

One application I use is WinFF on Linux, however it is cross platform and available on Windows too. It is also FREE.

It is a front end for FFmpeg, which is arguably one of the best encoders available. FFmpeg is used by VLC, MPlayer, HandBrake, Blender, Google Chrome, Perian (a Quicktime component) and about 80 more projects.

I use this one quite often. It is free and has several output options. Not the fastest thing in the world but has been getting the job done.
It does ask everytime if you want to upgrade to the Pro model but doesn't have any other limits that I have seen.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions. I must begggg your pardon. I posted this question twice, most recently a few days ago. I must have forgotten that I had done so. I happen to look down the list and saw to title and said, "Hey...someone else had the same question!"
