htmldoc

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

htmldoc

Postby toypusher » Mon Feb 28, 2011 8:41 pm

Someone on this board has a copy of htmldoc I believe.

They were making pdfs of build threads at one point.

I would like some online documentation converted into some kind of document that I can print out or use offline at least.

If I can only find the person who has the program.

I have pdf995 that "prints" a pdf.

H&R Block was nice enough to send it to me a couple of years ago with their tax return software.

Oh! It looks like its downloadable on the net as well.

Works great. Acts as a printer, but creates pdfs.

Is that what you were looking for?

I'm not exactly sure if this will be any help, Kerry, but the Mac OS turns everything into a PDF for printing, and any screen can be made into a PDF from any program. I also have Acrobat Professional, if that helps.

Kerry it's me that uses htmldoc. Do you have a url for the page/documents that need conversion?

Burke, I was hoping you would see this, I just could not remember who had the program.

It would be fantastic if this documentation could be easily be made into a PDF or any sort of document for offline use.

And if it will be too much trouble or effort, please do not even try.

Thank you so much.

Glenn,

I want a whole online documentation converted - hopefully without going through page one at time and then doing something to convert it.

Here is what I am looking to convert: http://www.phpbb.com/support/documentation/3.0/

Kerry, do you want to be able to print it for reading away from the computer, or just view it without a connection?

There are other *nix tools that can be used in conjunction with htmldoc that make either task fairly easy.

I would ultimately like to be able to print it, but just having it offline would be good too.

Well, that was pretty darn easy...

I did some searching on the phpBB developer web pages, found that they have all the scripts required to compile their documentation into any format including pdf, using docbook, xml and xslt. So I downloaded the source files for the documentation, installed fop and compiled it into a pdf in under 5 minutes.

The file is about 1.3MB so I just need to know where you want it sent - you can PM me if you prefer.
