I wish! I recall when they were .25 a gallon and when I was in the army in Fort Campbell Ky I was mad when they brought it up to .50 a gallon, I said I would drive less.
Long time researching the abandoned South Pennsylvania Railroad along the Pennsylvania Turnpike. God will guide me. As he has done so in the past. southpennrailroad.com

I remember when:

1) I had a Facebook account

2) gas was $.86/gal. I vowed to drive less.

...back in the early 70's the independents(none of which exist today) had GAS WARS around here and regular could be had for 13/15cents/gallon...you could drive around all day(or all nite) for less thanna buck..........

p.s. IIRC Esso/Mobile/Ammoco/etc went for 33cents/gal at that time........mj

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.

One summer on our way to Wally World, gas on the Jersey Turnpike hit $0.44 a gallon; I thought my Dad was going to have a stroke.
If I knew retirement would be this much fun, I would have done it right out of high school.

When I first purchased my '59 Austin Healy Sprite in '65, I immediately took it to the gas station, where I asked the attendant for $2 worth.

The tank held 9 gallons, and at $0.19 per gallon, would not hold $2.00 worth of gas.

Cigarettes were $0.25 in the gas station machine then also.

In the 60's, when I was dating my wife, we could have a great date for $5. $1 for gas, $1.50 for movie, $2.00 for burgers and frys and $.50 for drinks.

Back when I got my first ride (that's me on the front)
Image
I'd spend my allowance (a quarter, dime, and nickel) and get enough gas for over a week of riding. I had to have help lifting the gas can.

BTW I still have this bike ... It's a little small for me these days ...
