Got to watch the beginnings of a tornado that didn't mature

Storms just ripped through the DFW area, and the tornado sirens went off here. It wasn't raining at the time, so me and about a dozen of my neighbors went outside to see what was up.

One neighbor had a weather radio app, and the NWS set off the sirens because rotation was detected "on the East side of downtown Frisco."

That's where I live.

We got to watch the rotation pass directly over our street. It was pretty loose, and broke up as it passed over us, but we did get a rare opportunity to look straight up at the first stage in the development of a tornado.

It is basically a cluster of storm clouds going around in a circle, as seen from below.

You generally don't get to see these thing develop, because they are wrapped in heavy rain. We got lucky.

Oh, and thanks Planovet for calling to check up on the dog.

I remember when the eyewall of Rita came over Carthage TX – We we’re sheltering people from down south in the family life center at the church. Sustained winds of 40 mph and rain bands can really put some respect for nature in ya’ . During the moment of calm – we went outside to look at the clouds – we could see them racing around in tight bands across and back along the horizon – errriee.

I think I'll stick with earthquakes.

During the 1994 aftermath, while driving side streets (as the fwy had collapsed) to the TELCO Emergency Operating Center there were houses in the process of burning to the ground for a lack of water. Lots of other sights also.

The storm clouds passed just north of us and we heard the sirens. I had to check if the Doghouse was still standing.

I was wondering why the water balloon was getting bigger... and then it hit me.
