We just returned from Kingston, Ontaro, where we attended the Sheep Dog trials at Grass Creek Park.
First, anyone looking for a neat destination who lives near to Kingston, go there. The city is not too big, easy to get around in, has a wonderful lake front loacation (maybe St. Lawerence River front?). It has enough good restaurants to keep you eating for 2 weeks, and confused about where to go if you only have 3 days. And it is clean with a capital 'C'.
There are canal locks nearby which I found interesting, and lots of nice parks.
The Sheep Dog trials and the venue were outstanding.
Rideau Acres campground is large with about 600 r/v & tent sites. We were on a 'waterview' site which was quite nice.... as usual, the only down side were the bathrooms which I found to be about a 6.5 on a scale of 10; acceptable, not outstanding, not repulsive..... (most koa's I've found to be a 9 out of 10). I talked to the owner about it and they have considered replacing them, but said pranksters filling toilets with rolls of paper and creating other mischief, etc., have kept them from making major changes.
They do have a large rec hall and swimming pool....... Would I go back? Yes...... the location was good for our needs, but if we were not attending the sheep dog trials, about 6 miles away, I might opt for the koa on the other side of town.......
All in all, our trip (about 8 hours drive from CT) was quite enjoyable. This weekend, off to Stowe, VT, for another s/d trial in an extremely rural setting (Duxbury, VT, population about 1,300).
