Short and sweet. Are you still dreaming; have you started construction or are you ready to go camping. And if you would give your state or regional location. I'm camping from North Carolina.

I'm a little beyond dreaming but not much. I'm still watching everyone else's progress and learning.

Now that Sue and I are getting some of our medical things behind us and the hot and humid weather is going away, all my dreaming and planning are going to turn into action. My plan is to have an enclosed trailer by winter then putz around on the interior while the snow flies here in Michigan. :snow

I usually just jump into a project with both feet but since I couldn't, it has turned out for the better. My original plan was WAY different than what I'm planning now. My thanks to all of you who have helped my imagination wander. Being a nut for details, I'm sure I'll still have lots of questions when I start making sawdust.

I have collected a few (VERY FEW) parts but haven't put anything together yet so count me among the dreamers. In NY near where I-84 crosses the Hudson river. I am allowing 1 year for construction. I will build everything including the chassis.

I hope to pick up my frame next week. I am having a local trailer company weld it up for me. I am going to HD to pick up some plywood this weekend. I've decided on the 8' Jim Dandy Andrew has on his page. I like the flat front and the nice round back.

I was going to pass from dreamer to builder this week. However i had a minor setback. My <former> employer decided to write a couple of latex paychecks. I guess I'll start on the Cubby when the summer heat fades here in the desert . I'l prolly wait until HF puts the 1800 lb trailer on sale.

I started building nearly a year ago. Really do not have that many hours of actual work into the trailer, but I knew I did not have time for the project when I started it. I work on it when I can and don’t sweat the long periods when I cannot. If I were to wait till I have time to build it, it would never happen.

I call my trailer the “Escape Pod”. It serves it’s purpose, even now, as it provides me escape as it evolves from building material into a functional camper. There’s no schedule, no hurry, no deadline.

As for dreaming, I’ve spent more time sitting, thinking and dreaming up ideas for the trailer than I have actually working on it.

Finished? No custom project is ever finished, maybe useable, but there is always something to change, improve, or re-do………… :)

You know Scott, that looks like a good idea. I looked at that but didn't care for the tongue in front until I saw some peeps here that made removable ones for their traditional trailers. Are you going to have a galley? If so, I would think about making it the 9.5' length. An eight foot length would be a sweet K.I.S.S. trailer!! You could have a 1-foot closet in the front with 7 feet for a nice, long bed 8)!
If you have a galley, the extra length will help but can make for an awfully heavy tongue depending on how you outfit it. Another plus for the removable tongue would be a theft deterent(SP).
Get it going so we can see it at the MO-KAN gathering!!

Too bad about the job. In this age of safe sex, even the corporations use latex when screwing their employees.

I'm in Massachusetts, about 40 miles west of Boston. My Cubby is about 2/3 complete. Body is built and skinned. Cabin is complete except for some minor trim. Galley cabinets are almost done. I still need to compelte the electrical system, finish and install my doors and galley hatch.

Jeff,

I thought about the 9.5 footer but decided to go with 8 feet to keep it simple. I am going to have a traditional galley in the back. Probably not much room for more than a cooler but that's okay. I am going 5 feet wide so that will help with galley space. I liked this profile but I'm already concerned about tongue weight so I didn't give much thought to that front galley.

I'm still building. I keep getting distracted. Since coming back from vacation (2 weeks now), I haven't touched a thing. I do plan on working on it this weekend though.

I'm building very slowly, it will be a year next month. I have pushed my due date back again. My original date has gone from "completion" to "usable"

As I posted elsewhere, I pulled mine out of the garage for the first time yesterday and we are headed to Pinchot State Park, PA today. The interior is not complete yet. I still have to put in the trim, rebuild one door (it is just a piece of 3/4" plywood now) and refinish it, build another door for the upper cabinet inside. Also, need to put doors on the lower Galley cabinets, probably change the way the hatch is proped (maybe gas or manual struts). Still need to clean up the excess of polyurethene caulk along some of the exterior trim and around the vent fan. I am hoping to build a tongue box next week after the maiden voyage.

Also, I am in the planning stage to build another one over the winter. This one will be bigger and I plan on building the frame myself to get the sizing right and the keep the price down.

To all you guys that are dreaming an/or still building - Hangin there and keep plugging away. It seems to take forever to get mine this far, but I did and you can too!!!

I started building & working on it, around the first of May. I've been hot & heavy at it since I started. Going with the plans I have, & from ideas from this site. Built the trailer from scratch, the floor is on & sealed. The walls & roof, & galley door is on too. The inside is ready for mouldings. I've made great progress until 2 weeks ago, I was ripping plywood on the table saw for the galley, when the wood kicked back & broke my left index finger. They had to wire it back so it would set straight. So now I'm in a cast for the next month &1/2, & can't do anything now. I'm ready to put the aluminum on the outside. I hope to get back in action & get it done as soon as I get my hand back. ....You would not believe the people that are amazed with my project, I have quite a fan club..If they're not asking me for an update, they're asking my wife or dad..

Still more dreaming than building.

I do have the frame welded.....well most of it anyways. My goal would be to have it ready late spring/early summer, but not really on any kind of timeline. I'm learning a lot from this great web site, which has me constantly changing/modifying my plans too better fill my needs........ok, and wants.

Next week is vacation time. :applause: :D I have managed to incorporate a stop at rv surplus, and hopefully i will bag some goodies.

Well goodluck to all on your projects and thanks go to everyone on this site.
