Finally have a new camera

Postby jss06 » Thu Oct 06, 2011 5:14 am

Just got my combination Christmas/B-day present.

Wife let my buy a Cannon SX30IS to replace the camera that died in September 2010 on our trip to Washington DC.

I have been really wanting to try out the 35X optical zoom lens on this camera. The Moon was the perfect subject. These pictures have been resized but they have not been cropped or color corrected.

Start with Full optical zoom but no Digital zoom:

Full Optical Zoom and about half digital zoom:

I am happy with its performance. It's not professional quality but it perfectly fine for my needs. These were all taken in the fully automatic mode. Not bad at all for a point and shoot camera.

I am looking forward to trying this on wildlife. My previous camera only had a 10x zoom.

Wonderful shots!! I look forward to your photos while you "play" with your new toy. Keep them coming.

I love that model line from Canon! I have an S3IS which is probably 5 or 6 years old and it still works great (although not nearly as nice as yours). I think they make they nicest advanced point-and-shoots available.

Nice moon shots!

Great shots. Congrats on the new camera. But how could you go a full year without a camera? I would sooner go without shoes for a year. Looking forward to seeing some of your best work.

My old camera was one of the first in the SX line. I really liked it. The CCD finally tanked and you would only see garbage in both the screen and the pictures.

It was time to upgrade it anyway.

the 4MP camera in my Samsung Galaxy phone takes decent pics in good light. I just had to do without in low light. All of my trailer build pictures were taken with my cell phone.

Nice shots. Now, forget the digital zoom exists. All digital zoom does is crop your photos in the camera, something done better on the computer.

That's just fantastic! I've been thinking about a new unit soon. There's just so much choice out there.
