price variations at HD and Lowes

Postby gman » Thu Aug 25, 2005 9:32 pm

Anybody done any comparison shopping at these stores? Not against each other, but at the same store in differant locations. For example, Lowes wanted $184 in Olympia for the same window that was $158 at the Clackamas store in Or. Plus sales tax, both are about the same distance for me, so gas cost is not a factor. Also today, price a new stove at HD in Everette. It was nearly $200 cheaper than the one in Longview, same state. Seems strange to me. Do you think wood prices vary that much as well?

I can't speak for Lowes or HD, but I know that a lot of chain stores charge different prices depending on "location" and "demand". I first noticed that in food stores and started asking why and got the answer above.

Locally, between Lowes and HD, there is little price difference. I think that HD might be slightly lower in some areas, but most of the time, I find the prices for wood pretty much match. They must keep checking on each other's prices.

Yes, I understand the the two would compete with each other, what I am saying that they seem to compete with themselves. one Lowes has the same Item for 20 percent differance, just wondering if that was the same in all areas.

There are 2 hd inTx 30 miles apart one has a lowes in town to compete with the hd with lowes in town is always cheaper sometimes alot for example I bought a 1.19 can of pvc glue at one store spilled it first thing in the morning (don't you hate it when that happens) went to the other store without lowes in town 1.99 . I asked the manager about it he told me strait up it was because he did have lowes to compete with :x I told him what I thought and he sold me the glue for 1.19 some times it helps to talk to some one in charge it was not about the .80 but about princple
O.K. maybe it was about the .80 (I'm cheap what can I say)
