The whole dynamic between Sue Ellen, JR and John Ross is what convinces me that Cidre ignored "JR Returns" when writing the new show.
We are told that John Ross resents JR for not teaching him the oil business and Sue Ellen for sending him away to boarding school where he couldn't have learned anything even if JR wanted to teach him.
If you take "JR Returns" into consideration, though, that never happened.
John Ross was in his late teens during that movie (probably 17ish). He was living at home in England with Sue Ellen at that point. Not at a boarding school.
When they thought JR was killed, they went back to Dallas. By the end of the movie, they were moving back there. Her and Bobby had bought Ewing Oil from Barnes and JR was running West Star.
None of that is acknowledged in the new series.
The resentment makes for an interesting story but it doesn't fit with what had happened.
That being the case, you can't really tell what Sue Ellen's motivations are in all of this. But, I suspect that she isn't behind JR since she would naturally assume that JR would want to screw him.
I doubt that JR needs any help. JR always had more than a few satellite companies out there to hide money. Plus, Conservancies RARELY pay what a property is worth. Usually pennies on the dollar.
If Bobby assumes that the deal is legit and thought he was selling it to an actual conservancy, he probably would be selling it for a fraction of it's real worth.
