Duck Tours

Postby rowerwet » Sun Sep 16, 2012 12:50 pm

yesterday my wife and I went on http://www.bostonducktours.com/ for our birthdays, hers being the day before mine, talk about the best way to see Boston beside walking! it is an 80 min. tour that drives around most of the good historical spots in the city and then dives into the river for a trip a few miles up the Charles river to give you a good view or the Boston and Cambridge skyline. the best part for me was also getting to drive the DWKU in the river for about half the water trip (normally just for the kids, but we had only two real ones on the tour and one wouldn't drive for some reason, lucky me!) Probably the funnest thing we have done for our birthday ever. stuck my camera out the side to get a video of us splashing into the river http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THoN_Lys ... e=youtu.be
Has anybody else done one of these tours before?

we did a duck tour in phily one time. for us the funny part was they gave everyone quacking duck beaks to wear and make the duck's quacking sound. so funny!

our driver would say snoop dog when he wanted us all to quack, he would use the pa in the duck to say quack to get a response from people when he wanted to have some fun, or instead of his horn to get pedestrians to stop cutting in front of us.

We took the tour in Seattle a couple of years ago.
Agree it was a nice way to get the tour, see a bit more than the bus.

I love the duck tours! I've done the one in Philly 4 or 5 times. There used to be one in DC that I did, too. The quackers from the Philly trips still come out of the drawers every once in a while. :applause:

while in Boston we too did the "duck" tour around town and into and out of the river.
before we headed off to Philly last year the "duck" tour had a very tragic accident seems the engine stopped
while it was on the river and several people drowned after it was hit by a big ship going up river
the ship could not stop in time and of course the "duck" couldn't get out of the way.
The tour was shut down when we were there.
I spent time in Boston and I was stationed in Philly still one of my favorite citys.

I remember that crash, the tug driver was on his cell phone receiving news his son had just died, ignored repeated calls from the duck captain (they have cell, marine and commercial radios in the Ducks) the ones who drowned were from another country and may have not understood or followed the captains instructions as they didn't have lfe jackets on. bad luck all around...
